University of Alabama defensive end Marcell Dareus informed NCAA investigators that former University of North Carolina assistant coach John Blake recommended agent Gary Wichard to him in a phone conversation last summer, sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Blake and Wichard are currently at the center of NCAA and North Carolina Secretary of State probes, as investigators have sought to determine the depth of agent tampering in several college football programs.

Things just keep getting worse for UNC.
At this rate, I’m starting to wonder if the NCAA might bring back the death penalty.

Death Penalty
It is important to remember that SMU’s football team had been on probation several times before they got the death kneel. The team was actually on probation when the last allegations came out.
The UNC football team has not been on probation. In the end it will not matter as UNC will not even be ACC relevant for the next decade once the hammer comes down.
Wait . . .
Did you just use ACC and relevant in the same sentence?
Whoa . . .
. . . easy there fuzzy little man peach.
Hope your right
Despite the last game, almost nothing would help Alabama more than a return by FSU to college football elite status. Fisher has already done a good job of turning around recruiting and at least making the battles in-state much more difficult for Florida.

im really glad i read the entire
post before reacting…cause anything with the “NCAA” “alabama” “dareus” etc is not what you want to see 1st thing in the morning…that said, yeah UNC is toast….
Alabama football....The only addiction God wholeheartedly approves of..
Right there with you.
Saw Dareus’ pic under the heading “Illegal Contact” and almost threw up.

Wow, that is a major revelation...
It’s one thing for a coach to act as a runner for an agent to attempt to get his own players to sign with that agent. However, to actively recruit players on teams from outside your conference that are seven hours and 400 miles away? That shows a level of dedication above and beyond anything we had previously fathomed. When you see that, I mean, was the guy even really a damn football coach to start with? It looks like in name only, honestly.
Frankly, it’s creepy as hell that he was even calling Dareus in the first place. What in the holy hell is someone on the North Carolina staff doing talking to one of our players? What would you think if, say, McElwain was calling Andrew Luck and telling him what agent to sign with? Per the Yahoo story, this has been going on Dareus’ entire time at UA, and he was doing the same thing with Saunders (and presumably others).
The fact that this happened on UNC’s watch tells that that program shouldn’t be hammered, it should be nuked.

of course this could be part of a unc strategy
to isolate blake as the contagion and plead mercy in that respect. there’s a LOT of folks leaking info on this one early, that’s not at all what i’ve come to expect.

It is not going...
…to matter which individual is at fault. It is North Carolina’s responsibility to provide an environment of compliance. It would be impossible to logically conclude they have done so.
Right
He was a UNC athletic department employee when he was doing that. UNC is responsible for his actions (as far as NCAA is concerned – not in all legal matters).
The penalties here could end up making what happened to USC look like a wrist slap.

i'm just positing a possible scenario
not pondering its possible outcome.

Right
People don’t seem to figure it out. The USC folks were sure that nothing would happen because, hey, it was just an agent, not a booster. Seems to me the whole issue was that the compliance department allowed anyone to be doing this shady activity with players. But of course, I can see how that would in no way keep the UNC people from trying it as a strategy.

For Blake's sake
I hope the agent paid him well. Don’t think he’ll be getting work in college football any time soon

The NCAA needs to put John Blake in protective custody
Otherwise, Saban might put his head on a pike out in front of the football offices to show what happens to agents who cross his path.
I think that this information . . .
. . . sheds some light on Dareus’ “lighter” sentence. This may explain, too, why Saban did not expect Dareus to be punished.
