I would say yes and here is why. To begin with this game comes right after our biggest test and our best effort. It is just a fact that teams, especially college teams have hard time duplicating a great effort the next week. In 2008 we killed Clemson and yet struggled the next week against the easiest team on our schedule-Tulane. Last year after a dominating performance against Ole Miss (who we thought would challenge us for the West) we struggled against an average SC team.
Another reason this is our most likely loss is because it is on the road. At the risk of sounding arrogant it could be along time before someone beats us at BDS. The Bama crowd which once was no more than middle of the road in the conference as far as impact on the game has become a real force. Odds makers say home field is worth about 3 points. I’d say the home field at BDS is worth 10 points. Furthermore, our final two road games are against the goofs of the conference, LSU & UT. I just don’t fear those games that much after seeing their exhibition on Sat. Auburn will be tough for sure, but I just think at home we will be able to handle them.
Finally, SC poses a real threat because they can run the ball. In fact, they seem to me to be able to run it better than anyone we play. The problem with a running team is that they can control the ball and the clock and wear you down. I think when Bama loses it will probably come when we just get whipped at the point of attack. SC could be able to do that especially with a weeks rest.
Well, that is the way I see it. This game looks to be the biggest (not only) obstacle in our path to an undefeated regular season. I’d like to hear what some of you think.
