This loss is on Bama, not because of Auburn

I know everyone will make Cam Newton and Auburn out to be the greatest things to ever play football, and I do not want to take anything away from their effort and the fact they did not quit. But this is not about Auburn, this is mostly about Bama not finishing, not executing, not keeping the foot on the gas in all phases. The lack of intensity in the 2nd and 3rd quarters showed and we gave the game away. I think I would have rather lost 35-0 than like this. Maybe in the bowl game we will play a complete game, although I doubt it. If we play a whole game today we win by at least two TDs. Auburn deserves some credit for their play and effort, but we choked!

obviously you don't have anything

better to come back with. blowing a 24-point lead is pretty damn telling.

Fuck You. You are not special because you live there. Mark Barron played the second half

with a torn pectoral and you don’t deserve to lick his shoes.

never said i was special

in fact, i expect to get shit for saying it. it’s okay. but we really ought to be ashamed of the way we laid down in the second half.

This is nothing against Barron or any player

The team overall lost the game more than Auburn won it. That is what I am saying. I respect Barron, his effort and all he has done for Bama, but the team did not finish. This was on Bama not Auburn…we let them off the hook!

We did let them off the hook

but I don’t think anyone quit.

And your right, if we had just been blown out it would be easier to take than the way we lost. However, I think UT, LSU, and Auburn felt that way last year. Well, that is not true Auburn acted like they won last year.

If Cam and Auburn don't go down for this there is no justice and the NCAA needs to apologize to Reggie Bush.

I did not say Bama quit

I said we lost intensity and focus. I agree UT, LSU, may have felt this way, but none were up 24-0. I love Coach Saban, but we have real issues, from the coaching staff to the players. Losing focus and intensity is something that has happened to this team many times this year. I am looking forward to the progess the team will make after this. I hope it carries over to next year and this win motivates us all through 2011.

Something happened

Saturday that made Alabama lose a 24 point lead but it wasn’t because someone quit. It was missed assignments and mistakes all the way around. Most Alabama fans that Ive talked to at the beginning of the year thought Alabama would lose 2-3 games this year because of their young defense and they did. Of course the offense didnt exactly live up to what we thought they would be. There are great years coming for The Tide and you can bet that I would rather be an Alabama fan than an Auburn fan any day no matter how many games Alabama loses.

There were some things I didn’t understand in Saturday’s game, one being why Julio Jones was mostly not heard from in the second half. He had a monster first half and then nothing….you can’t tell me that Auburn’s secondary was all of a sudden that good….no way. Can someone please give me some insight on that.

Well...

1. Julio got injured, but later returned when cleared to play.

2. The game was Friday (just sayin’).

Wasn't that in the fourth quarter when he got injured?

If I'm wearing a turban, it means Auburn is playing Iraq.

by CarrotTop4 on Nov 29, 2010 4:17 PM CST up reply actions

You are right

on both counts but Julio didnt get hurt until sometime in the 4th quarter. If I remember right he only sat out a couple of offensive series before he went back in. This game was just a copy of last years game….Auburn came out like game busters and then couldnt stop the Tide the rest of the way….Alabama did the same this year.

This game was more about coaching decisions than about lack of player intensity

In the first quarter we passed on first down 3 out of 4 times……any coach knows first down is the best passing down…..in the third quarter we ran (tried to run) 3 out of 4 times on first down. In the first half, we obviously knew Auburn was the number 100 rated pass defense in the country. In the second half we seemed to forget that and decided to “establish the run”, something we have done poorly all year and this decision played into Auburn’s defensive strength. Was this the head coach’s decision or the OC’s decision? I don’t know, but it was an obvious change from the first quarter. We also stopped attacking the perimeter and decided that middle runs and passes were to be the second half direction. Only one long pass attempt the entire second half, even before Julio and Hanks were injured, makes me think we were in protection mode rather that “finish strong” mode. Why did we run no reverses or trick plays or Maze “wildcat” pass that we only used one time (and very successfully) all year, or any new gimmick plays just for Auburn? My opinion is players did not stop playing hard (yes they made some costly mistakes) but the coaching decisions played a much much bigger role in this loss.

I agree mostly

I believe the team lost intensity. Everyone, from Saban down through the trainers, needs to evaluate themselves. I think the coaches have been too conservative in the second half concerning play calling. We should have thrown more on first down and thrown to Julio more period. To be honest, in my 30 + years of following Bama football I have never been more angry, frustrated, and disgusted by one game. Now that is saying alot considering the Curry years, the Dubose years, and the Shula years. I would never imagine we could get here from where we where in that game. We need a serious offensive evaluation as to our style of play, our in-game adjustments, and overall philosophy. In all honesty I think this falls on CNS. This is his team and his philosophy has always been similar to what we are doing now, and this time it came back to haunt us.
