I grew up both a Braves and a Reds fan. Johnny Bench was my hero. And looking back on how he managed his teams, Sparky Anderson was someone who reminded me a lot of Coach Bryant. He was humble in all his accomplishments and gave all the credit to everyone but himself. During his Hall of Fame acceptance speech in 2000, he said, "I got good players, stayed out of their way, let them win a lot and then just hung around for 26 years." Doesn't that sound like something Coach Bryant would have said?! You will be missed Sparky! You were the man that drove "The Big Red Machine".
