Split Allegiances and Twitter Accounts
Alright everybody, hope the crew is all well and ready for the Holidays, but I have encountered quite the quandry. I have enrolled in the University of Southern California for my Masters coursework, starting in the spring. While my Crimson Tide devotion is unwaivered, I now must enter USC into the mix in some ways (Would be a lot easier of Hello Kiffin wasn't there). I bought a USC polo to use for my student teaching, a t-shirt and a visor that will work into my rotation with my Bama stuff. What is the protocol though? Do I always have to have some form of Crimson along with any Cardinal and Gold? Do I only wear the Cardinal when in direct USC related activities? I am in no way letting this cut into my Bama fandom, and honestly, I will probably just follow USC and watch the games when they don't interfer with the Tide, but with it being my Grad School, I'm kinda torn on how I should handle this.
Also lets do a Twitter round up, I follow Todd, Kleph, OTS, Bammer, and Nico. If anyone wants to follow me, i'm TRexMorris on the tweets.

I have a BS from UA and an MS from USC...
and I have actually rooted against USC more since I got my MS than I did before. Just because you get educated at a place doesn’t mean you have to be a football fan of the place. At least that was my outlook. I still root USC when they play ND but thats about it. And in all honesty most of the “cardinal” stuff is basically the same color as “crimson” because with most shades of red there doesn’t seem to be a defined difference. Most all of my USC shirts look like they are crimson. Whatever works best for you though. I actually wore an Alabama tie to commencement :)

Believe it or not
there are plenty of Bama fans who attend or have graduated from AU.
If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.
raises hand I’m currently attending there. You get to do half the work, but end up with twice the grade.

Why would you go to USC?
I know its a great school but isn’t tuition insane?
My impression is that people who root for USC are douche bags for the most part. Usually old money yuppies or ghetto high school kids that root for a school that would not even let them step foot on campus they can’t run a 4.4. I hate everything that USC stands for.
So yeah, follow your heart (and burn that fing USC garbage you spent your hard earned money on).
in
retrospect my post was a bit douchey. I apologize. USC is a good school and if you can stomach rooting for the school of Pete Carol, OJ Simpson, Lane Kiffin, Reggie Bush etc then you are a better man than I. I graduated from Arizona State so I shouldn’t really talk shit about USC. Even if your pay 30x’s more $ its still probably penny for penny a better investment. I hope you find peace and resolution with your internal conflict (cough, cough fusc)…
Been a Bama fan since I was a kid
Went to Birmingham Southern (of course no football), but it wouldn’t have mattered where I went because I’m a Bama fan.
A fraternity brother of mine (still friends) WAS a bama fan but got a job in Opelika. Now he’s an Auburn fan. Are you fricking KIDDING ME?
In my opinion he never was a Bama fan.
Point is either you’re a fan or your not. This rooting for multiple teams stuff is beyond me. Just wear crimson and they’ll never know.
Yes GMAC, I am your father!
Absolutely right
In my opinion he never was a Bama fan.
My sister’s husband grew up as a “casual” Bama fan, but he attended Southern Union JC and then the farm to get a degree in architecture. He became a barner then, but thankfully he’s pretty much a casual barner (similar to his casual Bama fandom earlier in life). I would agree with you: these folks were never Bama fans at all.

Yeah...
You might get a story that starts out, “Well, I had been driving home and needed gas, so I pulled into this Flyin’ J…”
Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone.
Nah...
Flying J’s are too well-lit for her tastes…

My Thoughts
When USC is playing a game that doesn’t have an effect on Alabama I will pull for the Trojans. If there is any chance it could be adverse to the Tide whatsoever, I am for whoever helps Bama. I have been a Tider my whole life and went to UA for undergrad so I have never known anything but UA.
And on why I chose USC, they offer an online MAT program, are very well respected nationally education wise, and the cost wasn’t as absurd as I thought it would be (roughly 1.3% of cost of other programs in 1/2 the time with a much better program, all delivered online from a Nationally respected University). And I have never had any time spent around USC people other than Bix and the CC people and they are all very nice.

I'm from Brooklyn, my Dad is a Notre Dame fan who talked-up Bama incessantly as I grew-up. Figure that one out.
I earned my BS from Marquette University, but always sported my Bama gear because I’ve been Crimson since the crib — thanks for the assist on that one, Daddy-O! Just because I accepted an academic scholarship from MU instead of attending Alabama doesn’t detract from my love for Bama. Besides, Alabama didn’t offer me any financial aid. One thing I am not understanding (morri029), is acting like you pull for USC (by purchasing SC gear). I’m not trying to give you any grief, I just never understood the whole “split loyalties” argument in sports. If Alabama is your heart, then “represent.”

Wear what you want man, but when you are far away, it’s cool as shit to have some Bama stuff on and someone go, ‘hey roll tide dude’ or something like that. hell, I even saw a Troy State trojan hoodie when I lived in Denver and it made my day, kind of felt like home again. I do sometimes think its weird to see people wearing different teams sports stuff at once, maybe it’s more on a personal “logo explosion” type level, makes me think of nascar cars, it’d be like attaching your resume to every work email you send.
At the same time, if your at a school, your part of their community, you can ‘root’ for them or not, I do think it’s kind of silly for a fan to move somewhere and just be a dick, for being a dick’s sake. I’ve never understood that, not sure how those people make friends. I don’t really know shit about LA, but campuses are always cooler when the home team is winning, I’d say go to a game or two, enjoy yourself, and see what sticks, y’know?

Since it is all online. Was planning on driving up to South Bend for the USC/ND game next year, but it is played on the 3rd (4th) Saturday in October, and that sure as shit isn’t happening.
