Football Outsiders think Javier Arenas could be the answer for the Colts
Javier is getting attention, plus some money quotes from good ol Ian.

yeah i know!! but he makes a good case for Javier for a lot of teams that could use a returner and depth in the defensive backfield. I saw one mock draft that had him going to the steelers a long time ago.

He should have an ally in DeShea
Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs

Saints
used their top pick last year on a DB (Malcom Jenkins) and they have to re-sign or tag Darren Sharper so I wouldn’t worry about them picking Arenas.

Problem is, it’s not worth it for the Colts to invest a lot of $$$ in a punt returner. If they think Arenas will contribute as a quality DB, they might consider it. If not, there’s no way they, or anyone, spends a 1st or 2nd for a special teams guy. Just not worth it.
Now, I believe that Arenas will be a high quality DB in the NFL, but I’m no expert. The knock against him seems to be lack of size and top speed, but in the NFL most DBs are short, and ability to change directions quickly is more important than flat out speed. I see him being a good #2 DB, which combined with his returning abilities, might get him a #2 rd pick.

i'm very "meh" when it comes to the nfl in terms of team fandom
but i’d love for javy to go to the colts as tanier describes for one very important reason… he’s much more likely to prosper at the next level at a team that selects him for his specific skills. and the colts are known for doing this. with proper development and using him in a way to maximize his specific abilities, its much more likely javy will be successful as a pro. and that’s the bottom line for me.
