Top Moments of the 2009 Season: The Sweet Sixteeen - Upchurch vs Maze
Another non-surprise yesterday when Eryk Anders' decisive forced fumble against Texas pummeled Javy's INT at Ole Miss with 94% of the vote. Today we pit a couple of touchdown catches against one another: Roy Upchurch's go ahead score at Auburn vs Marquis Maze's 80 yard TD against Arkansas. Vote away.

Had to go with Cody-5...
because though Maze’s catch was beautiful, Upchurch’s grab got rid of that nauseating “ohhhhhhh, SH**! we might just lose to Auburn”, spirit-crushing awful feeling and replaced it with one of pure, unadulterated joy.

Hellz Yes!
You play fast, you play strong, you go out there and dominate the guy you play against, and make his ass quit! That's our trademark, that's our MO as a team, aight, that's what people know us as! - Nick Saban, 2008

+1
Without a doubt, the spirit crushing score against the barn gets my vote.
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!
Spirit crushing?
This play set up the greatest Moral Victory in Auburn history! Barners were overjoyed!

Not only
was I happier “in the moment” with Cody-5, but that one just kept getting better and better…when I found out that Upchurch insisted they put him in that just made the whole play in my mind. He willed us to win. Maze’s TD was great skill, but Upchurch’s play embodied the spirit of the team to win, and that’s why it got my vote.

this is a weird one for me...
maze’s catch and juke there is one of my favorite highlight clips of the season. it’s a perfect pass and a fantastic amount of ownage delivered up for the unfortunate razorback defender. every time i see it, i get a smile on my face.
but upchurch’s score, when it occurred, had me leaping out of my seat and running around the room screaming. it was one of the most cathartic moments of the season (right behind Rocky Block). on rewplay it’s oddly bereft of the emotional import (since you know the outcome).
but, the standard here is “which play made you happier” and i interpret that to mean “when it happened” and that means Cody 5 gets the vote.

This is going to be another bloodbath....
…which is odd. The first round stuff was closer than any of these have been so far. Probably means a combination of bad first round voting or bad seeding from Todd (or a combination of both.) When in doubt though, BLAME TODD!

The moment I saw
number 5 break free and GMac turn to look at him, I knew we had won the game. Even before Greg’s arm started moving, I was up and screaming – with joy. Knowing that Upchurch begged for it and Coach Saban gave it to him makes it even better. I wish Roy had had more chances to show his stuff while healthy, and I thought with the way he worked and stuck at it that he deserved a chance to make a big play and win a big game. Plus, I love the way it broke Auburn’s hearts.

Roy didn't get as much playing time as he wanted....
…but he’ll be remembered FOREVER because of that play.

He's gonna be on Daniel Moore
so every Bama fan will know him FOR-EVER

I also
voted for Cody-5. Roy Upchurch scored our first touchdown of the season destroying a Virginia Tech defender as he scored. He then scored our final touchdown of the season destroying the entire Auburn team with one catch. Roll Tide!
This upcoming season I'm gonna refer to Julio Jones as "The Magic Man" and Trent Richardson as "El Diablo"

Is it just me...
Or did Danielson make a fool of himself again?
“Oh the ball is placed perfectly to the outside…”
Watching that replay 3 times, it’s not to the outside, it’s to the inside, slightly underthrown. Still, damn good ball placement, the defender had very little if no chance to get the ball, but definitely not ‘perfectly placed to the outside’
By the way
I also went with Upchurch, that game was a rollercoaster, and that play was the apex of emotion in my house…
My girlfriend has 4 cats, one hates me, one is skiddish around people, the other two don’t give a damn about much else. The skiddish one was sitting comfortably on the back of the couch when I leapt from the couch yelling in bliss, he went kamikazi into his hiding hole and no longer seems to sit anywhere near me on the couch.
I was going to say the same thing
Maze makes a great play out of it, but if that ball is thrown well it’s probably just a play that ends where he catches it. Yet again, Danielson sounds like an idiot.
Cody 5, easy.
