Oregon wide receiver Jamere Holland has been dismissed from the football team for a violation of team rules, according to a release issued Sunday by the UO department of media services.
The specific reason for Holland's dismissal was not detailed.
The UO receiver posted a comment on his Facebook page claiming linebacker Kiko Alonso had been kicked off the team, and questioning the decision.
Oregon Live: Oregon WR Jamere Holland dismissed from the team
To the best of my knowledge, this may be the first dismissal from a major college program that we have seen stemming from the fact that some kid popped off at the mouth with a dumb Facebook comment. I tell you, I tend to think that Mike Leach had it figured out on that front all along. At any rate, click here for a print screen of the posting.
Comments
Not the first time
Texas center Buck Burnette got kicked off the team for posting a racist comment after Obama’s election.
You ain't hurt...
Ah...
… forget about that one, but you’re right. I guess that makes Holland #2.

Mike Leach might have had it figured out . . .
but he wasn’t real smart in addressing it. I can guarantee you that Saban wouldn’t make the boneheaded move that Leach did. Saban would have had one meeting with James and it would have gone something like this: “Son, on this team, it doesn’t matter who your daddy is. You fix your attitude or your daddy can find you somewhere else to play.”
I would imagine that one very clear warning should be enough for guys that like to pop off.

The James fiasco had nothing to do with Leach's social media policy

Big shock...
… according to his official bio on the UO site, his major was “undeclared.”
And keep in mind that this kid was a highly-touted recruit out of California who originally signed with USC in 2006 (he transferred to Oregon after Carroll kicked him off the team).
Basically he had been in school for four years, and still hadn’t even declared a major. You do the math.

Depending on the USC situation...
The Pac-10 might be pretty damn ugly next year. Are we going to see Arizona in the Rose Bowl?
Eh...
… I doubt it. I don’t think USC will be bowl eligible (NCAA sanctions), but I doubt a team like Arizona gets in. I imagine it still comes down to the winner of the Oregon v. Oregon State game, just like it did this year.
Admittedly, though, if there was ever a year for a traditional also-ran in that conference like Arizona or Cal to step up and make the Rose Bowl, this is the year.

so Oregon
is possibly losing their QB, their star rb from last year, and one of their top wrs? At least they’ve got a shot at the Fulmer Cup

it's being reported now that Kiko Alonso will be suspended for the entire 2010 season
for his DUI arrest. And Carlos Dunlap just got 1 game.

Is it going to be like LeGarette Blount's "full-season" suspension?

That'd be nice,
but last time I checked Chip Kelly wasn’t the douchebag in charge of the NCAA.
