Top Moments of the 2009 Season: The Elite Eight - Rocky Block vs Heisman
Yeah, I'm pretty sure this round is going to be nothing but blood bathes. Dareus' TD bludgeoned Peek's with 82% of the vote, and today we've got Cody's block against Tennessee against Ingram's Heisman acceptance speech. What's more important to you, beating Tennessee or winning the Heisman? Prexactly. Vote away.

I have to go with Cody
I was working at egans and some people had their cigars out early and then everything just seemed to go to shit. We were all just standing there scared as all get out and bam he blocked it. I have never seen so much tension melt away to pure ecstasy. I also have a soft spot for Cody because he always bowled next to us in my bowling league .
On Rocky Block
Mark Barron acts like he thinks he’s kicking the ball (best seen at 2:10, but also on other replays)
Cody.......All the way.
That play…… I mean I’m still speechless to this day. Ingram winning the Heisman was great, but I really was expecting it. Cody’s block….. Still speechless.

Blocked Again! Cody Again! Alabama Wins!
For as much crap as we (deservedly) give Verne, that was a great call. Succinct. To the point. And let the crowd take the rest. And Saban still cracks me up as he wanders off the sideline saying, “Where’s the fuckin’ ball?”
True, it was a great call
that was promptly stepped all over by Gary with his “Cody took his helmet off” crap. I feel bad for Verne, he was doing a great job capturing the moment and then it was taken on a tangent about a rule that Gary didn’t even have correct.
I love just how clearly you can hear Rammer Jammer in the broadcast
Makes me really wish I could have been there. BDS looked/sounded like it was about to explode.

This is as far
as Ingram’s Heisman can go for me. His speech was better for me than several good on-the-field plays, but in the end this is not about one player. Cody’s two blocks put us in the NC for all intents and purposes. Without them we probably lose that game. Cody all the way.

Two Daniel Moore paintings against each other?
but Rocky Block should win hands down.
Ingram is my boy, but…

i actually voted for Ingram...
not sure what came over me at that moment..

It was probably just a name-recognition impulse vote.
Kinda like when all those people voted for Ingram over the clearly better Upchurch play the other day… : )

its like hugh hefner trying to decide which playmate is hotter
(yeah, I stole that line, so what?)

well
its about a guy who wakes up from a coma and finds out that his GF is now a playmate…i wouldn’t go out and rent it but its one showtime a lot…

I actually saw it on cinemax on demand friday night
and watched it. Ugh. Terrible. That tall goofy guy is horrible, I literally thought about loading up the gun and shooting the tv.

truth me told...
I was MUCH more worried in the last 5 minutes of the Tennessee game than I was the last 5 of the Iron Bowl. We were running out of gas, but we were gaining steam towards the end in Auburn.
Fumbles. It was always Fumbles
I jumped so high
after Cody blocked the kick that I busted my knuckles on the ceiling and they bleed pretty good.
Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
It's the Heisman!
OK, I was at the Tenn game, went from dispair to elation in that split second. Felt relief and joy with 80,000 of my closest friends. Wanted to name a baby Cody. All that on a march to a NC with the best Alabama team I’ve ever seen! But, it pales to what Ingram did. Alabama has 13 NC and has beat those orange jerks from Tenn numerous times. We never had a Heisman. We busted open that ceiling and hopefully we’ll add a few more. This will aide us in recruiting for years to come. We might have still had and opprotunity to win the NC with a single loss because we looked so good against Florida. Rocky block was a moment on the way to a perfect season but Ingram with the Heisman is historic for Alabama. It’s like us getting our first National Championship. How could a single play, even a fantastic game winner over shadow it? I have to go with the Heisman. Roll Tide!!
I second the vote, but not for the same reason
I genuinely felt happier for Ingram than I did at the end of the Tennessee game. When UT lined up for that FG attempt, the sinking feeling in my stomach mixed with such loathing for all things orange that I was ready to explode with anger. I think the emotion for me at the end of that game was more relief and exhaustion than happiness.
as i said in the Ingram vs Upchurch thread...
I’d bet that TR’s run for a TD (1st half) in the BCSCG probably brought on as much joy as any other play of the year…but it wasn’t a top moment…just a great one.

Personally, I still think the Heisman is a joke
Just because an Alabama player won it doesn’t change that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad for him and I’m glad we can say we won one. But it deserves the attention the MVP award of any other sports league gets and no more. I’ll never understand why anyone starts talking about it more than a couple of weeks before it’s awarded.
wait....
all the sec championship game plays are already eliminated! FOR SHAME!
Roll 'Bama Roll: The Champagne of 'Bama Blogs.
That's interesting
What we have left are:
Three plays from the BCSCG,
Two plays from Auburn (counting Peek’s TD),
Two moments having to do with the Heisman (Ingram’s drive and winning),
And probably the one play that most changed the course of the season.
best game of the season
For sure the SEC championship was the all around best game. Had multiple great plays and we never worried. Because of that, a bad game (like the Tenn game) with a good play wins! Not taking anything away from Mt Cody but if he blocked a kick against Florida it wouldn’t be in the running.

What will we tell our grandkids?
William my Lovecraftian friend, the block was great, but not historic. 30 yrs from now we’ll say, “2009, that was the year we won our first Heisman, oh, and the National Champioship again.” Probably won’t remember the blocked field goal that led us to the 14-0. Fantastic wonderful play in a season full of them, but not groundbreaking!

Keep tellin yourself that...
I’ll remember Cody’s two blocks against UT until I die.
Nah, I disagree...
…cause I’m going to have one of those “Rocky Block” Daniel Moore paintings beside my father’s one from Stallings last game. Still trying to figure out how to effectively airbrush Mike DuBose out of that one though.

sorry ed.
gonna have to disagree with you on that one. you’ll notice that the outcome of our last championship season hasn’t taken the luster off this play at all. moreover, nobody really remembers or cares the play didn’t count anymore.
if cody walked into egan’s on this day in 2040, i’m pretty damn sure the first thing anyone will ask him about is this play and the second thing they’ll ask him is if he’d like a beer on them.
Roll 'Bama Roll: The Champagne of 'Bama Blogs.
No question...
…and most importantly, Ingram winning the Heisman was incidental to our winning of the BCSNCG, while ‘Blocky Stop’ was one of the most vital plays that made it possible.

Can we dare say...
…without Rocky Block, this season is nowhere as storied as it was? I can.

Honestly though...
No moment during the 2009 season was as awesome on so many levels as cody’s block…
It was simply “our” moment…

I have never felt more excited
About any football game, EVER, in 35 years, than Rocky Block. Hands down. It is probably my favorite moment of all time.
Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world.
I would almost agree.
For me it’s between that one and Teague’s strip in the NC game.

The moment...
…was exhilarating, and possibly the single greatest moment I’ve experienced at a game…but the game as a whole was mediocre. This year’s SECCG, however, was magic from warmups to chest bump….

Ugh...
I dont know how this was so easy to choose for most people. This was just as tough as last round for me. I mean… for God’s sake… I STILL cry watching Ingram cry giving his speech! Ugh… but alas… I still voted for Rocky Block!
Roll Tide Roll Tide!
