Grant: "We're in a free fall when it comes to things that affect winning ... Other teams come together and fight. We don't do that."

Twitter / Gentry Estes: Grant

Not to keep doing the whole "Anthony Grant as Basketball Saban" thing, but this season is looking more and more like Saban's first season (i.e. lots of promise at the start ending in utter free fall) and Grant just plain sounds like him.

UPDATE: I'll throw this quote in here, too:

"Today had nothing to do with talent. It had everything to do with will, and their will was greater."

let's hope he's like Saban

…but I’ll be real surprised if next season goes as well as the 08 football season did

same here

I mean, any analogy like that is bound to have flaws. But I do think we have the right guy in the HC position

This season has had a wide variety of emotions

After Region, the furniture delivery people (personal problem with the furniture store…. I wish them pain), and now this…. yeah, today has been rough.

This is just painful at this point.

honestly

after what the Auburn and Florida games took out f me emotionally, I was too numb for this one to bother me as bad as it should have

i cant even begin to explain how monumental of a collapse alabama had in the 2nd half. i cant even fathom how herrendous that is. i mean you are winning by 20 POINTS!!!! 20!!!!! they only had 20 points going into the half!!!!! then they score 54 points in the 2nd half!?!?!?!?!? DOUBLING OUR 27!!!!!! i dont even know how its possible to blow that

I really like Grant.

We play with a defensive intensity unlike anything I’ve seen under Gottfried. Our players are giving up/are give out. I hate it for them. I wish they had better circumstances, but for crying out loud…they gotta be more aggressive offensively. They let single point guards for other teams attack the rim, whereas, when we have the ball, they have a clean shot at a layup/foul and throw it back out. Florida’s shorty destroyed us. Ole Miss is good, but NOBODY should win with a 20 point deficit at the half. I hope Grant is up to the challenge. I want Bama to be just what he wants it to be in basketball. I just hope the boys keep fighting. They know the damned system. They gotta quit thinking of themselves as losers. They aren’t losers. They are winners who have got to learn to win. That’s what Saban taught our 2009 class of seniors.

MATRIX: Bennett, I thought you were--

BENNETT: Dead? You thought wrong. Ever since you had me thrown out of the unit, I've been waiting to pay you back. Do you know what today is, Matrix? Payday.

I like Coach Grant.

And I honestly think he will get it done in time. But this season is becoming painful to watch. I honestly wish we had just trailed by double digits all day and then lost.

When we were up 23 I thought…this is terrible because we will blow it and then we will sink even lower. With the lead we had a good high school team could have held on for the win.

I hope he has these guys out every morning next week at 6am. The season is gone it is time to separate the winners from the pretenders.

Doesnt even look like we are pretending.

But he will get it turned around next year.

Having Coach Grant coach my Alma Mater for several years, I can say give it time

This guy gets buy in, and recruits the type of players that do it right. It’s all about the weakest link. I loved the 40 minutes of mayhem and the weakest link in the chain. It was very bitter sweet for him to go to Bama. I was happy he went to my favorite, and first university, but saddened when he left VCU.

Oh and I watched a lot of blown games at VCU, he’ll get them to close soon enough.

The more I watch this team.

The more I realize how low Mark Gottfried left us. These players have talent, but they just cannot get their minds right.

You know it's gotta' be frustrating for Grant as well...

To have a thin, but talented starting 5, that can go toe-to-toe with anyone for a half, play their asses off, then only to have the mental errors, blown assignments, etc doom the outcome. That has to take a toll on a good coach, who knows that these guys have more in them than that.

Not just the starting 5.

We have about 8 guys who play significant amounts. We are not losing because 5 guys get tired. This is totally a mental thing.
