Music Monday: TELEPATH

Whenever possible, I'm going to try to make these posts relevant time-wise. Today's "Music Monday" choice, TELEPATH is playing at Jupiter in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday and at Zydeco in Birmingham on Thursday night of this week (buy tix here...$10.) If you happen to live in the wrong part of the state, they're playing in Auburn on Friday night.

I saw them at The Nick in January of 2009 on an odd night (it was a Tuesday or something) and they played to about 25 people starting around midnight, but it was spectacular regardless. Easily one of my Top 5 shows of 2009.

They are self-described as "live electronic downtempo reworld breakbeat dub." They have a lot of ingredients in their stew but they make it work. They might take some Fela Kuti afrobeat and fuse it with some Indian sounds and run it through an iMac and add a pounding beat and some thumping bass. Seriously good stuff and super fun to see live. The light show is usually a bit of an assault on the senses as well.

I couldn't find any really high quality clips of them on YouTube as they're still a new(ish), relatively unknown band. Hopefully that'll all change at some point. Anyway, here's a clip of them live at the Granada Theatre in Dallas (a cool place to see a show by the way...) Oh yeah, they provided a free download on their website of a 30 mixtape of their own stuff. You can download that here. Let me know if any of y'all are going to the Birmingham show.
