Around SBN: Jeremy Lin's Game-Winner Was Incredible, Worth Remembering

Stat: Duke to be Bama's Smallest Football Venue Since 1990?

I was thinking about this a while back, and rugman11's post about Duke season tickets reminded me: How long has it been since Alabama played at a venue that small?  Wallace Wade Stadium seats roughly 34,000.  I did a cursory search and the best answer I could find was 1990, UL-Lafayette (Cajun Field).  The catch, though, is that Wikipedia lists the attendance at that game as 36,133.  The following season, Bama played Memphis at Liberty Bowl Stadium in front of 34,632, but that was obviously not the stadium's capacity.  Anybody have a better answer?

I would imagine DWS this wins by a mile.

Though they may add some extra bleachers or something to push it past 34K.

Seems to me that would be the correct answer

…But DWS currently has a capacity of 55k, and I don’t know what the capacities were before each of the renovations. Anybody?

Nope, wrong.

It would seem that DWS/Scott Field has been at 35k since at least 1948, was down to 32k in 1983, but then expanded to 40k in 1986.

So I guess not.

You'd probably have to go back to 1984

when we played at Cincinnati. The current record for that stadium is just over 35,000 so the capacity back then was probably less than that.

I thought Vaught-Hemingway

Had about 41K until the late 90s revamp?

And that thing in Starkvegas only had 40K until the mid 90s as well.
