drunk comment of the week: Derek Dooley is like Mike Shula, just not as pathetic
from Gentry's Twitter
what’s funny is the Kentucky team left with about 10 minutes to go, surely thinking SC was next opponent.

don't know if anyone heard, but
we came back from 18 down to stun SC. Just I thought I should let yall know.
Nice work on the open thread, sir
I greatly appreciate your services as they kept me informed whilst at work.

to be quite frank, I had trouble streaming the first half because of my wireless router going down, and the last I saw was the 16-14 score when we were close. Getting things working at halftime, I nearly just shut the thread down and knocked some more NyQuil out. Thankfully due to Bama07 and his updates I stuck with it.
I was just an excited Bama fan doing what other Bama fans would do for each other. Bama07 deserves the credit for keeping me in the game, and in a sense, keeping you in it too.

what I'd like to see today
You have to think UT will beat LSU, although LSU has won two of their last four or five, so they aren’t as bad as they were. Either way I really don’t care.
I definitely want to see Florida beat Auburn, and not just because it’s Auburn. A UF win pretty much clinches them a bid, which gets another SEC team in, while a loss to #140-something Auburn might knock them off. There more SEC teams that get in the Dance, the more likely we are to sneak in the NIT.
I guess I’d prefer to see Arkansas beat Georgia just to make sure Georgia doesn’t make a run and pass us on the NIT list.
Tomorrow, we definitely want to see Ole Miss win against (likely) Tennessee, which might be just what they need to move up from the NIT to the NCAA, clearing way for more SEC teams.
If Florida can beat Auburn, we probably then want to see MSU beat Florida, since Florida can probably lock up a bid by beating Auburn tonight. MSU probably needs two wins to get in, but if they come against UF and Vandy, it would probably do the trick.
I’d like to see Vandy put out whoever wins the Ark/UGA game, but then I’d like to see them lose to MSU/UF in the semis.
If all that were to happen, the SEC could get 6 teams in. Then we would be the first SEC team in line for an NIT bid. Hopefully UF makes it and then if either Ole Miss or MSU can move up, the SEC would get 5 teams and we would then be second in line for the NIT.
It’s not just that I’m that worried about getting to the NIT, but I also want the SEC to get as many teams as possible. It’s good for the reputation of the conference, which could pay dividends for us in future years when it comes to Selection Sunday time.

so i'm supposed to root against auburn and tennessee. right?
somehow i don’t think that’s gonna be too tough.
Roll 'Bama Roll: The Champagne of 'Bama Blogs.
As far as the reputation of the conference goes
What the teams do in the tournament goes a lot further than how many teams we get in. If we put in too many that don’t really belong, it’ll drag down our tourney win %, which will hurt the conference’s rep a lot more than just number qualified helps.

I thnk UT will win
but like I said above, LSU has won two games in the last couple weeks. It’s not automatic and wouldn’t be a complete shock if they pulled the upset.
agreed, I would not be surprised if LSU wins this one, but I don’t really wish for it. I just want one Western Division team to get hot and win four in four.

This LSU team is historically bad, though...

LSU 10 Tennessee 8 11:46/second media timeout
Tennessee has Chisom going to the line for the traditional three point play coming out of the timeout.
Both teams are sloppy and seem flat-footed. If this continues then Old Miss might have a good time to pad their resume for the dance.
It's not what you've done but what you are doing that matters.
correction, Tennessee has 6 with a chance for the seventh.
Chisom is responsible for the two buckets from the floor (two and a three) and two foul shots.

12-9; Third media timeout
Prince got a basket on the fast break for the Volunteers, but otherwise they are not showing like a team who has beaten a #1 and a #2 and is a lock in the Dance.
IMO, it’s more because of how Tennessee is playing, not what LSU is doing to them.
Should be a matter of time before Pearl has them leading.

They look very sloppy. LSU doesn’t look much better either.

would say they might be coming out of it after that bucket, but it’s Chisom again. He has all but two of their points if I have it right.

Finally some scoring from other members of the Volunteers. Still have a chance to have both teams with less than 20 pts each at halftime.

21-21; halftime
Tennessee has been showing both it’s inner Jeckyl and Hyde so far, being brilliant at times on defense, but not consistent, while just not being there on offense even though they finished strong to end the half.
I’m still at odds to call it more of Tennessee screwing it or LSU doing it, but I tend to lean toward a brain fart more than the Tigers ability.
It's not what you've done but what you are doing that matters.
Tied 21-21 at halftime.
The fact that this game is tied tells you why LSU was historically bad this year. UT has had a bad habit this year of coming out flat in opening halves. You have to think if LSU couldn’t even hold a lead in that half that the Vols will pull away in the second.

30-30 at the first media timeout of the second half
I couldn’t tell if the foul was on Chisom driving or on the LSU defender due to the sound being off. My eyes say it was the LSU guy not set before Chisom was off the ground.

indeed, it’s bad enough Tennessee’s RPI will suffer if they win this one. It would be damning to Ole Miss to win against LSU tomorrow but lose to the Kentucky/Bama winner.

Florida wins 78-69
That should now give the SEC 4 solid locks for the tournament. Auburn’s season is over.

Assuming Vandy wins tomorrow...
…this Arky/UGA game is easily the most meaningless of the opening round. Neither one of these teams has a shot at the NIT with just one tourney win. I kinda want Arky to win to offer a tiny bit of redemption for the SECW…but I kinda want Arky to lose because they are a bigger obstacle to us winning the SECW next year. Sigh….
