Danny Woodson Jr. Commits

In some breaking recruiting news, Danny Woodson Jr. has committed to Alabama. Woodson is a 6'2, 200 pound wide receiver prospect out of Le Flore High School in Mobile, Alabama, and he committed to the Tide over offers from other from several other schools, including Auburn.

Speaking of Auburn, the Tigers offered Woodson before Alabama did, and in fact Woodson named Auburn his leader even as of last week. Nevertheless, though, Woodson took a visit to Alabama this weekend and committed to Nick Saban and company after we extended an offer and made him a recruiting priority.

And if the name Danny Woodson rings a bell to you, it should. Danny Woodson Jr. is the son of Danny Woodson, the highly-touted quarterback who signed with Alabama in the late 1980's, and who was the quarterback at the Capstone before Jay Barker took over in 1991. Woodson was a very talented player back then that was held back by off-field issues and a poor scheme fit, but no one ever doubted his raw ability, and largely the same thing goes with his son. Football runs in the blood of the Woodson family, as Woodson's uncle, Lamarr Woodson, was a tight end at Auburn, and while some thought that may help steer Woodson Jr. to the Plains, obviously that has not turned out to be the case.

Woodson Jr. became a big name on the recruiting trails last year after having a stellar junior campaign at Le Flore, where he racked up 57 receptions for 1,463 yards and 25 touchdowns.

With the addition of Woodson Jr. to the recruiting mix, I would imagine that Alabama is probably about done at wide receiver. While the Tide may sign one more receiver in the 2010 class, it looks to be a small class overall and given how much we've racked up on receivers the past couple of years, I really do not see us having room for more than one more receiver. Furthermore, with us already having two highly-touted wide receivers on board in Shinn and Woodson Jr., that further alleviates the need for more wide receivers.

Woodson Jr. becomes the fifth commitment of the 2011 recruiting class.

So..

How much more money did the REC give to Woodson Jr. than Dye?

Dye's not longer in the cash business...

Even though he did make Dakota Mosley the exception, all he offers now is firearms and Corvettes, neither of which really appealed to Woodson Jr.

After spending seven wondrous years in the state of Alabama, never in my life have I seen fans, who claim to be loyal to one team, spend more time AUbsessing over the other more so than they do their very own.

How much?

Auburn decided “after” his commitment to the Tide they weren’t interested in him after all. He didn’t fit in with their “family”. LOL Roll Tide and welcome aboard!

Almost half

of Woodson’s catches were for TD’s and he averaged over 25 yards per catch. That is really impressive.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

The kid runs a 4.94 40-yard dash. He'll never gain seperation against SEC caliber DB's.

He is great who can do what he wishes; he is wise who wishes to do what he can.

Clearly a typo

Rivals has him at 4.5. Think about it… really… 4.95? Todd would be offered a scholarship if this were the case!

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J.
