Hypothetical question of the day
Since it is spring break and things are slow, I have decided to bestow upon the RBR readers a hypothetical question. While driving into work yesterday, I tuned into the Dan Patrick Show on the radio. He posed the question, "Would you as a fan, rather have your basketball team play in the NCAA tournament and lose in the first round, or not make the NCAA tournament but win the NIT tournament?" Obviously, there are pros and cons to each. Which would you rather? Please discuss. Roll Tide!

Win the NIT...
Besides it being a post-season championship, and besides it being more games for kids under the new system, it strikes me as a harbinger of a good tourney run for the next year or so…
Last year’s runner-up, for instance, was Baylor (swept Texas, sleeper this year).
08’s winner was tOSU (2 Seed this year)
07’s winner was WVU (2 seed this year and BE tourney champ).

And of course tOSU was regular season/tourney champ for the BXI

Is there an option
for your football team winning a National title but your basketball team not making any post season play??
Cause I’d pick that one…

i think that one's a little too obvious
how about this…
prefer a BCS bowl or a Final 4 run?
The Process of Champions
Still too obvious...
Whatever the third BCS bowl is in a given year vs. the NCAA basketball title.

I'd take a Papajohns.com bowl berth...
…over a Final Four run.

wow, but I could see that I guess
I certainly remember how painful it can be to have a football season that’s not even worthy of a bowl of that caliber… it just hurts.
on the other hand though, I remember how much fun I had during the elite 8 run and I’d love to see us top that.
The Process of Champions
Take that with a grain of salt...

for the original question
I think “Stuck in the Plains” nailed it… winning the NIT seems to do more for future success than losing in the first round of the NCAA tourney
The Process of Champions
Another hypothetical...
….would you give up sex for a year, if you knew it would bring a repeat BCS Championship next year in 2010-11? No team has done that since Nebraska 94-95.
remember
the word “sex” doesn’t cover EVERYTHING…

Tough...
But, no. I’ll take the uncertainties of the post-season, instead of the absolute certainty of another title.

I agree...
how much fun would it be watching us win another BCS title if you’re running around on edge like a sex starved lunatic? lol.
Hell, I did that this year in Pasadena. ;)
Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs
If I can use slick Bill's definition of sex...
…then yes, I could go a year.

For the Republicans among us
Would you vote to reelect Obama if we still haven’t lost a game since he’s been president?
The Process of Champions
I thought of 1000 different
one-liners that would fit Obama here, but it’s probably best to stay above that and keep the talk to just football and basketball. VERY interesting question, though.

I'd vote for anyone...if it meant
Alabama would stay undefeated and win another title or five! Politicians out there…you want my vote? promise me this! lol

Just remember...Alabama has NEVER won a NC
unless a Dem has been in office…For me it’s a no-brainer; for the Republicans amongst us, that has to define cognitive dissonance…

Not even close to true
Coolidge was in office for ‘25 & ’26, Hoover was in office for ’30, Nixon was in office for ’73, and Bush was still in office in ’92. So that’s 5 titles under republicans, 8 under dems.
What may be a little more in favor of the Dems is that of the 7 Democrat presidents since Roosevelt, we’ve won championships under 5 of them, 6 if you count ‘92 when Clinton was president elect. The only exception is Truman, and we had the great team of ’45 during his administration that went undefeated and destroyed USC but the National Title was awarded to Army. In the same time span, we’ve only been champs under 2 of the 6 republicans.
The usual case...
…to be made is that each of Bama’s AP titles has come under a Democratic President or President-elect: 1961 (JFK), 1964 & ’65 (LBJ), 1978 & ’79 (Carter), 1992 (Clinton), 2009 (Obama).
You could argue that we lost to ND in the ’74 Sugar Bowl because Nixon was in office…if you want to be all logical and stuff.

Time for me to go back to my southern Democrat roots...
…and take it back from their liberal hands. Will be a shame to change my Libertarian tags, but it’s for the good of the program.

I hate
finebaum but all this talk about giving up basketball success to ensure another championship makes this article actually seem insightful..

I think Coach Grant is
…a great coach and will get this team to a Sweet 16 within 2-3 years. We just need to be patient. I hate this article. Finebaum is running out of ideas.
You have to be effin kidding me.
How in the hell can that rebel-rouser not see the way the program was in shambles from CMG and short of a Calapari and his money ball (just sayin’) we would not be any better today.
I swear that Memphis reject says things to be titilating and doesn’t care about the actual logic of a situation.
…oh, wait. I’m talking about that tool. Damn you Bammer for bringning him up. And damn Sirius Radio for picking his show up. Now everyone in the PHX will just stare and think we’re all like that overused douchebag moron.
