Not even Nick Saban....

is big enough to make me interested in baseball. What can I say…just too boring.

Despite...

…clockster’s lameness, I just spent the last several (apparently 28 or so) minutes composing a fanpost about this and tonight’s gymnastics meet. Please give it a quick look and support the Tide.

I

think baseball is one those sports where if you love it, you probably played it. Similar to hockey. My wife is a big MLB fan and I’ve grown to appreciate it more over time, but I can safely say I’ll never love it.

The Girl and her family...

….are all into baseball, but I just can’t get into it. We’re taking a trip to Seattle in July and are looking at maybe going to a Mariners game while we’re there (only been to minor league games, so figure I’ll cross “attend at least one game of every major pro-sport” off the ol’ bucket list), but I honestly kind of dread it. Only reason I’m remotely interested is they are hosting the Red Sox, and it will give me a chance to pull against them. Fuck New England sports.

Mariners stadium is pretty awesome

went there back in 2002, and despite my general lack of interest in baseball, the seats, atmosphere, and beer were pretty great.

Also, you have to love a stadium that sells extremely fresh sushi alongside brats.

I've

never been to anything but minor league games myself, where you have to actually fetch your own adult beverages. Everytime the wife and I discuss going to a Braves game, my mind immediately shifts to “mmmmmm beer guys.” Damn MLB wouldn’t have shit for attendence if it weren’t for Bud and Miller.

Damn skippy

its probably the only sporting event I would go to that I give more attention to shenanigans in the stadium rather than the game itself.

For the record...

…I have zero interest in MLB, but I love going to high school and college — particularly Alabama — baseball games. The combination of baseball at its purest form, my love for all things Alabama, Spring in the air, and the chance to unwind and relax for a change make it practically irresistable to me. And I never played organized baseball. Plus, CNS will be there, and last time I went to a Bama game, I met one of the captains of the football team as well. It was well worth the five bucks.

FWIW

the boys from the team that enjoyed spring break in destin, left yesterday to head back to t-town. i’m betting they will be in attendance.

Ooooooh make sure you don’t say that to the anti-aluminum bat brigade.

ANY sport (sans nascar)

is fun to watch, IMO, if it is in person. i can’t stand to watch baseball on tv but in the stadium is a totally different deal

Also...

…back when we had the Birmingham Bulls hockey team, I really loved going to those games. I never played hockey and still know jack squat about it, but the games and the atmosphere were always really fun. Barons games, though? Boring as all hell. Wish Birmingham could sustain a genuine pro team…

I had...

… a Birmingham Bulls puck way back in the day. Don’t know what the hell a kid from rural Alabama was supposed to do with a hockey puck, but whatever.

And you’re right about the Barons. Minor league baseball in general is just so boring. I can honestly say that I only enjoyed two Barons games in my life:

(1) Watching Michael Jordan play (mediocre AA player as he was)
(2) Used car giveaway night

He's being the first CF Coach to utilize that to recruit

blue chip prospects. He will get three commitments before it crosses homeplate.

Which, by the way, will be a perfect strike.

Follow-up

From the Bama Beat article:

Without any wasted motion, Saban toed the rubber on the mound and zipped a strike over the corner of the plate to the delight of the crowd.

“He was pretty good,” (Jake) Smith said. “He played shortstop in college (at Kent State). That’s what he told me. He said, ‘I never pitched. I couldn’t throw strikes.’ But he threw one then.”

BTW, you know who caught Saban’s pitch? Chris Smelley. Worlds collide.

"That rug really tied the room together."
