Bama baseball off to best start ever

I don't have time to write an in depth summary of our baseball season thus far, but I would like to point out that our team is now 16-1. Which is the best start in the history of our baseball program which began in 1892. We clinched the SEC opener this weekend against Vandy (ranked no. 16) with a huge win today. Regardless of what happens in the Sunday game (if it is not rained out), we are in great shape to start SEC play and should move up from our current ranking of no. 21 to something around no. 15. The team has truly bought into the style of play of first year head coach Mitch Gaspard. Also of note we drew about 4,500 fans for the Friday and Saturday games. This number does not include the several hundred fans that watch for free in right field. This is not stellar but a solid fan showing when you consider that gymnastics drew over 13,000 for senior night on Friday, softball is home and has been packing them in as usual, and we are on spring break. If we can keep this momentum going we should contend for the SEC title and may put ourselves in position to host a regional or even a super regional, but for now I would take a win Sunday to sweep Vandy. RTR.

Saw the game on TV
and Gaspard has done a great job. They are playing very sound baseball. When he was hired I was thinking— why? But we may have a very good coach.
This team could really do something and not just because we are 16-1 but because this is a very solid and prepared team.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

i knew that were getting close to the best start ever, but i wasn’t sure what the exact record was. no easy weeks in the sec though. they have to go to arky next weekend to face a team who will likely be ranked right around the tide.
Arkansas beat LSU in Baton Rouge Friday Night
Although they lost Saturday and Sunday. Could be a very difficult series

LSU went into the weekend ranked no. 3
That will be a tough series, but all series in the SEC are tough. Half the teams in the league are ranked in the top 25.
To follow up on the Vandy series, we dropped the Sunday game by one run. We had a chance in the 8th to get the win, but couldn’t get runners in. We stranded a lot of guys on base today and gave up an unearned run in the 1st (the first time we have given up a run in the 1st all year). In the SEC, if you can win all home series and avoid a sweep on the road you are bound for the SEC tournament and depending on the midweek games the NCAA tourney.
Next up is the mid-week game with Auburn in Montgomery at the new ball park. This is a makeup for a rain out about two weeks ago. Interestingly, this is a non-conference game and we still have a three game series with the Barn later in the season.

A sweep
of Vandy would have been nice but my gosh they were ranked #16 so they are good.
Still we could have won this game with just one more hit here or there.

should have taken 2 out of 3 from lsu. they gave up 7 runs in the 7th on saturday to lose 8-7.

Quick aside
I couldn’t make it to see Saban throw out the first pitch the other day (spring break and all). Can anybody who saw it give me a recap? Fastball down the pipe? Was it from the rubber or did he move up?

Alabama Baseball
The team should definitely crack the top 25 now. Alabama had been feasting on a lot of mediocre competition so far, but Vanderbilt has several players that will be drafted. It will be interesting to see if this team can compete in the SEC West this year, which looks really deep.
Well, we were already ranked in the top 25, but we should move up in all polls
Also, our schedule thus far has been far from mediocre. South Alabama and Charleston have fine baseball programs. This was our first sweep of USA in years and we took 2 of 3 from CofC. UGA is way down this year, but a win over the dawgs is a win over the dawgs. We have Ole Miss and State at home this year so that should really be in our favor. We are playing well at the Joe.

…must have seen a different poll. We were not ranked last week in the Baseball America top 25 (the most commonly cited poll).
Yeah, I was using USA Today
We were 21 now we are 16. I agree that BA is likely the best poll in the sport (and there are several), but most media outlets use USA Today that is what I referenced.
