BeerFest in Tuscaloosa

I posted about this awhile ago but just in case anyone missed it. The web page I help run www.wellthatscool.com is putting on Beer Fest to benefit Free the Hops. Its the first  Saturday of spring break  so navigation around Tuscaloosa will be a breeze and if you have not made it down it would be a good day to check out the new stadium expansion, The NC trophy above the football offices (you can see it from the street) and just get a Tuscaloosa fix to hold you over till aday or next season. Here is a snippet from the press release:

"wellthatscool.com is proud to bring Tuscaloosa "The Suds of The South Beer Fest". This event will highlight the fine craft breweries of the south. The fest will feature Lazy Magnolia Brewing Co. from Kiln MS., Terrapin Beer Co. from Athens GA., Sweetwater Brewery from Atlanta GA., Good People Brewing Co. from Birmingham AL., Back Forty Beer Co. from Birmingham AL., Olde Towne Brewing Co.from Huntsville AL. Abita From Abita Springs LA and Yazoo Brewing Co. from Nashville TN. Each brewery will have a table set up with reps to explain what makes the south rival any other beer region in the world. All proceeds will benefit Free the Hops to help in the fight to continue modernizing Alabama's beer laws. The cost of the event is $10.00 and will cover unlimited samples, a 5oz sample glass and special discount on Southern Beers at the after party. The fest runs from 4pm to 6pm. We want everyone to have a good time designated drivers will be let in free of charge and Taxis will be on standby. Tickets will sell out quick so go here to get your ticket today. "

The event is from 4pm -6pm so it won't keep you out very late. The link in the above quote will take you to the ticket page. Please come if you can its Tuscaloosa's first Beerfest. The event is limted to 200 people so it will not be over crowded and it is being held at Little willies / Wilhagans.

They will hopfully have their

Happy ending stout there. It has not made it to the Tuscaloosa market yet.

That stuff is wonderful

picked up a large bottle last time I was in Atlanta

by bamabrian on Mar 3, 2010 12:39 PM CST up reply actions

surprising,

we get the shaft

b-ham and huntsville get all the shit first. Which I always tell the reps is wrong because Tuscaloosa is a place where people learn to drink beer. Its like a beer incubator, people get a favorite and then take it to what ever city the move to like huntsville or birmingham.

Tuscaloosa is a place where people learn to drink beer.

except on Sundays, which I know undoubtedly infuriates you

I hope

alabama politics is screwy. I learned that from the whole free the hops bill. Lots of grand standing. We need the tax revenu bad and its silly that you can get a drink in auburn and not Tuscaloosa on a sunday.

by chinesedentist on Mar 4, 2010 6:48 PM CST up reply actions

Was a good point until...

…I read the part about Auburn. I mean it’s still a good point, but couldn’t you have used a better example?

It's not what you've done but what you are doing that matters.

birminham,huntsville.....

any city bigger and quite a few that are smaller. It just burns me so bad

by chinesedentist on Mar 4, 2010 8:18 PM CST up reply actions

Now..

…we just need to container size law repealed. I want my Corsendonk.

yeah,

down with that 16oz bullshit. I want my Olde E 40 dammit. To make matters worse, FTH supports a removal of ยง28-3A-23(g), but

but has not introduced any legislation to change it and has no immediate plans to do so.

and they are the only major lobby in that dept

Sweetwater IPA

Delicious. Holds its own with all the great west coasters like Stone, Green Flash, AleSmith, Racer 5, etc. etc.

Happy Ending is one helluva hoppy stout, but still solid. The Donkey Punch Barleywine is freakin’ awesome though. That’s a fall release, along with the Motor Boat ESB.

God

I miss living in Ttown.

Auburn fans are like slinkys... not really good for anything but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Some of the Yazoo beers are good

but I could not even get an entire 6 pack of the Hefeweizen down. The cloves over power.

is probably my favorite coming out of any of these breweries

by bamabrian on Mar 4, 2010 5:43 PM CST reply actions

it will be there..

also they have one called hopsecutioner that has not been to tuscaloosa yet.

by chinesedentist on Mar 4, 2010 6:50 PM CST up reply actions

yum yum

Big Hoppy Monster is good if you drink it within 3 months of bottling. Wake N Bake Stout (now the Coffee Oatmeal) is freaking incredible.

olde towne out

but Highland beer is replacing them. It should be great.

by chinesedentist on Mar 4, 2010 8:43 PM CST reply actions

I heard the Old Towne brewery burned down?

Haven’t gotten a confirmation of it. Was not a big fan of it.

See you at the chili cookoff tomorrow most likely and got my ticket for the suds of the south.

If so that gaelic ale is one of my all time favorites.

I lived in Asheville for a while and I loved that beer. I loved that city too.

Sounds like a great list

I’m a little sad not to see Sweetwater’s Georgia Brown, but this is looking very nice. Are there still like 4 tickets left or has it sold out?

by billycthulhu on Mar 10, 2010 2:31 PM CST up reply actions

I really like that Terrapin RPA

Why’s Abita skimping on the Andy Gator and Jockamo?
