Mike Fracchia
was one of the best runners I ever saw. If he was not hurt in 1962 Bama would have beat GaTech and won a 2nd in a row NC. We were the best team in 62 only giving up 39 pt.s all year. USC won the NC but they struggled in several games including beating Duke and Navy by just 7 pt.s each. Bama had only one close game- GT. We just could not move the ball that day. If we had Fracchia (of 61) that day I am sure we would have won. He would have dived in for the 2pt. play at least. We lost 7-6 going for 2 late in the game using a qb sneak. Actually if we had Fracchia that day we would have won by 10 pts.
I tell you what. The guy was fearless. He could dive over a pile to gain a 1st down or TD like no one I’ve ever seen. That is why we would have beat GT.
Great article.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
