huh...
Some of the list makes sense… I mean, I expected Florida to be in there since they’re the popular ones to bring up… But I’m kind of boggled by Penn State given the home-home with us. And then you have place like Arizona and Kansas St., who really don’t need to add any more punishment to their schedule than they’re already going to get.
One thing to remember...
football is all about the money. If you are big time program and you are going to sell 100,000 tickets to every game you want to have as many home games as possible. But, if you go after good out of conference games you are giving up home games.
This year Bama goes to Duke. Ok, that is not a big game for us but by playing Duke away and not FIU at home it cost us 4-5 million dollars or perhaps even more. Not to mention what it cost the city of Tuscaloosa.
In reality you can not afford to play more than one of your 4 non conference games away. And in some ways you may not wish to even play one game away.
In general Bama is playing one tough non conference team a year and that is about all we can afford to play from a financial point of view. The days of playing Nebraska, Missouri, Southern Cal, and Washington all in the same season (see 78) are gone forever.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
I can accept all this as true, up to a point.
If you look at AU’s schedule, for example, you see that their one big OOC game is against Clemson, which is a respectable, if not especially spectacular, choice of opponent. However, you will never be able to convince me that they will fare better, financially or otherwise, by electing to play their season opener against Arky St. at home as opposed to UCLA in Atlanta.
Being good has nothing to do with it, Mikey. They choose your name randomly out of the phonebook.

It is all about the
season ticket packages. Yeah Ark. St., if sold alone at aU would be a bust, but season ticket holders, who now make up the bulk of big schools ticket sales, have to pay for that game like it or not. The thing is Ark. St. will always play your at your place- no home and away. Away is what you don’t want as far as $ goes.

Someone want to list them?

BleacherReport
…is like a magnet for horseshit .
This guy wants to dump on the SEC, but chooses Tennessee to make his point? The team that has played a pac-10 school each of the last four years?
Or Rutgers? Who on earth would play rutgers. They’ve been playing good football, but everyone expects you to beat them. All of the expectations of a cupcake, with none of the benefits of a marquee matchup.
This list should be titled “10 Teams Whose Schedules You Might Bitch About If You Have No Idea How College Football Works.”

It's not you
It’s just that (at least) once a week someone will email or post an article that I read and think “This has got to be the worst possible article on this topic” and I look up at the URL and see that it’s Bleacher Report. The place is terrible.

you mean you don't believe Ryan Faller's credibility
when it clearly states “analyst” right next to his name?

When I read the title...
…I thought it would be an article about the Pac-10, since they all play each other every year….
