Your RBR Word of the Day: Pyrrhic victory
Pyrrhic victory \PIR-ik\ , noun;
1. A victory achieved at great or excessive cost; a ruinous victory.

Although the Tide ultimately cruised to a 40-14 victory over Florida International, it became a Pyrrhic victory after both Julio Jones and Roy Upchurch sustained injuries that would hamper their performance for most of the season.

Nitpick Alert:
I agree with Queen that Pyrrhic victory is an excellent word/phrase, but I think the point would be better suited by saying, “it became a Pyrrhic victory for both Julio Jones and Roy Upchurch after they sustained injuries…,” since it was more ruinous for them than the (14-0 BCSNC) team.
