One [NFL] general manager said of McClain, "Overrated. He’s undisciplined, plays high, and he’s not good with his hands... You get nervous, because you have to search the tape looking for good plays. I’m not knocking him, that’s the way it is."
From an otherwise laudatory article about Rolando's draft prospects in The Boston Globe.
We've already seen how NFL fans think Ro is going to be a flop at the next level and now we see that idea is shared by the folks that make decisions for the teams. Of course, I always find it amusing how these kind of comments are anonymous - because it's clearly a matter of national security and/or the source's life is in danger.

not that agree...
but did you see the unsportsmanlike call in the Va Tech game…
"You stay bought into it when you see your opponent sucking air and physically failing and you're still fit and ready and you know you own his ass."- Corey Reamer speaking about Coach Cochran
and yes he plays too high...
which was my major point in the other thread…but that is something he can fix…but his speed and knowlegde of the game will serve him well…

We'll take him back if ya'll don't want him.
That white stuff on the top of chickencrap is.....chickencrap.

OH, REALLY?
"You have to create 6 seconds of hell each play..."
Coach Nick Saban
haha
If someone says that, you know they’re about to (or just did) mock him. Kind of like when someone says “I don’t want to be racist, BUUUUT”

and if you are going to insist on being anonymous to make such a statement...
you are officially an idiotic asshole whose opinion can be considered worthless.

It's Rolando's job
to prove them wrong. He has not yet done so. So what? If I were him, and I knew I were going to be drafted, I would use this kind of criticism as motivation. That’s all it is. Prove them wrong. And honestly, some of what Rolando McClain did in college could give this impression. It doesn’t make me think any less of him because you have to be an animal to play football. You can’t be wired straight to play defense. Ro isn’t and that’s how it’s supposed to be.
In 2007 he came close to starting a brawl against Auburn. He beat up a frat daddy in 2008. He probably should’ve been ejected from the VPI game in 2009. Those are just the things I remember off the top of my head. There’s probably a lot of other stuff one could find on film. He wrecked his motorcycle another year. That might not have been anything more than an accident, but it proves the guy fits the prototype. When reports come of football guys melting down and beating people, of guys using steroids and drugs, don’t be surprised. Don’t despair. Don’t call them cheaters. It’s the nature of the game. I
McClain’s a great player and I’d take him as my middle linebacker any day. I’m sure guys like Dick Butkus and Matt Millen would have been considered undisciplined for getting in fights. Lawrence Taylor was undisciplined by these standards also. So was Mark Gastineau. Bob Crable once beat up a best man and groom at a wedding. Imagine getting your ass kicked at your wedding by your psycho middle linebacker friend. That would be memorable.
The GM is just a hater. Yeah, Rolando’s got a temper. But which MLB in the draft is better? And so what? Don’t draft him. Someone else will and they’ll probably get a good football player from it. If not, well…that’s the game.

i'm posting all of these
just so we can dig them up in a few years when just about everyone is sick of how sportscasters are singing his praises over and over and over (except us, of course).

It always looks better when
the experts call a player too small, too slow, overrated, etc. and he becomes a legend. They once said all of those things about me and now look at me. Who’s laughing now, Tom Lemming?

Reminds me of my best friend
A Giants fan who emphatically did not want Demeco Ryans…he wanted Abdul Hodge or Chad Greenway…I told him that he was sick in the head, and that he would hate life b/c Ryans was such a good player.
Same with Ro: The 14-18 teams who pass on him will greatly regret it.

I'm clinging to the hope that
Chiefs’ GM Scott Pioli is way smarter than a large percentage of my fellow fans and snatches Ro up at #5, “positional value” be damned.

Or, there is a very real fear of looking like an asshat in 2 years time.

That's ok
Then you’ll just get a job as a “draft expert” on NFLN or ESPN. I.E., “here’s Bob Johnson, former scout and personnel man for two of the crappiest teams in the league, to tell us the REAL insight on blah blah blah footbaw.”
