That is the desert. From here until the other side; no water but what we carry.
For the camels; no water at all. If the camels die, we die.
And in twenty days they will start to die.
Now that the A-Day game is behind us we find ourselves facing the horrible wasteland of the off-season. Almost four months without football stretches before us like the Nefud Desert (cue music) with little hope for survival and none for relief.
Well, almost none. There will be the usual hyper scrutiny of recruits not to mention the whirlwind of spurrious debates kicked up by roving packs of starving sportswriters. But honest-to-gawd slap-the-pads-on-and-hit-somebody football? Not a bit.
So to help us survive this grueling odyssey, starting tomorrow the Roll Bama Roll Reading Room will return for a second off-season. We started this feature in June of last year after folks asked for recommendations concerning books about Alabama football. This feature seemed the next logical step and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
From now until the week before he first game of the 2010 season you can check in every Tuesday for the Reading Room. Just to keep things lively this year, we've lined up a few guest reviewers and might take things a bit beyond just Crimson Tide football as well.
Like last year, we are open to suggestions from folks for what books to feature over the next 21 weeks. So feel free to use the comments below to let us know what you'd like to see us feature in the Reading Room.
