The 2010 NFL Draft Wrapup
The 2010 NFL Draft turned out to be as superb a performance for Alabama football as anything this team produced on the field in their run-up to the National Championship victory in Pasadena last January. No less than seven Crimson Tide players had their name called from the podium at Radio City Music Hall this week - the most Bama has seen selected in a single draft for almost a quarter century.
In fact, since the AFL and NFL drafts were merged in 1967, Alabama has seen seven or more players taken in a single draft just three times. Seven were tapped for the pro ranks in 1976 and a school record eight players were drafted in 1987. You don't have to be delusional to recognize that what we saw this year was a downright dominant effort, particularly since it was just two years ago Alabama was shut out of the draft entirely.
To compare, Oklahoma also had seven players taken in the 2010 draft including no less than four in the first round - a performance capped by producing the No. 1 pick, QB Sam Bradford. Florida had a whopping nine players selected this year with three taken on Thursday alone. Pac 10 power USC also saw seven players picked over the three-day draft but, oddly, none in the first round.
Here's the rundown of Alabama's 2010 draft class with links to the celebration threads on the SB Nation blogs for the teams in question:
|
A number of Alabama players remain hopeful for unsigned free agent contracts. Tight end Colin Peek was picked up almost the minute the draft concluded and Cory Reamer got the call not long after. Lorenzo Washington, Justin Woodall and Leigh Tiffin all participated in the NFL Combine and have a good chance to get the opportunity to try out at the next level as well. Here's the running tally on the Tide's 2010 UDFA performance (Those in italics are slated for tryouts but do not have contracts).
|
Word is that Tiffin, Woodall and Reamer have not signed contracts but have accepted invitations to try out with the teams indicated above. We'll be updating this list over the next few days. If you hear anything about any Alabama players getting on somewhere, please post about it in the comments and we'll get the word out.
* We are currently unclear on Eryk Anders status. Several source say he has penned a contract but a later notice from the Browns doesn't include him.

So how does the kicking thing work?
I understand they don’t usually get drafted. Do we have an idea of how desirable Tiffin would be as a kicker, compared to some of the other place kickers out there?
11guys
If my math’s right and the word on Anders and Washington is true, that’s 11 guys taken between draft and free agency. Unreal. Long time coming back forthe program, and the kids have earned every chance they get.
i'm going to update the original post with UDFA info
i’ve added a second graph with the likely guys and the team links go to the SB Nation nfl team blogs’ UDFA threads.

No worries.
I just clicked on the link and was like… “Hey, wait a minute…” Thanks for the write-up and links! Here’s to hoping it gets filled out.
Delighted to have Cory Reamer with us, hoping that he can make the team, always liked watching your defense so respect what you guys do. (like I was saying to Kleph earlier today).
Very interested to see where Leigh Kiffin lands, got a feeling that it might be with us, we don’t have a set kicker, we have Nick Folk and some other very low competition. Hoping to get Tiffin in before rookie ball starts
Again thanks for the information on Reamer kleph.

Thx for dropping by.
You won’t find many that will work harder than Reamer. Tiffin would also be a good pickup for you guys.
Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs
no problem at all
now if we can just cure you of that domer affiliation…

popped over to the Jets site
and read what they have to say about cory. thanks kleph for telling them about the fine job cory did for us. i absolutely love reading non-homer assessments of our team and our coach. someone posted this video over there and i dont remember seeing it before? not sure how we missed this one if in fact we did, but it is basically a highlight reel of the boys that are now getting paid.
one last comment, please stay healthy mark barron!

its fun letting them in on the stories we all know by heart but they've never heard before
my favorite was the reaction of the raiders fans to the story about ro pouring out the gatorade at the end of the SECCG to keep the guys from drenching saban.

Agreed
I’m a huge fan of Eryk Anders. I think he will do well in the NFL.

Did the cowboys ever get a kicker?
I seem to recall some serious problems with their kicking game last year.
At one point
I believe it didn’t help. IIRC, Romo botched a hold in a playoff game a few years ago, losing the game.
Just sucks that Rolando ended up with the Raiders
First they are sticking with a 4-3, and that is going to ask a lot more from him than our 3-4. I think he can do it, but it will be tougher than if they were to run a 3-4. Also, it’s the freaking Raiders. While they may have finally used their brains this draft, they are the freaking Raiders, and once you have Raider stink on you it’s hard to get it off.
Was super happy my Chiefs picked up Javier Arenas. He’s already the starting kick returner, and he’ll get a lot of play in nickel and dime packages. I can’t wait to see him make a couple of sacks.
Overall I am very happy how the Tide came out in the draft.
damnit!!!
somebody tell saban to get on the batphone and hook roy up!!
