Pac 10
I’d personally like to see us play a Pac 10 team. Preferrably USC, Cal or Oregon.

A home and home with ASU would be up my alley...
…would get to show the Bro-in-law what real football looks like in Sun Devil Stadium.

I think it's too late to play USC
Their dynasty is over and while it would be interesting for us to play a Kiffin coached team, he is not the coach that Pete Carroll is.
I'll put you through hell, but at the end of it all we'll be champions.
It's too early to play USC...

we are 1-7-1 against the longhorns
i want to get that sorted out before another 100 years goes by.

I am biased
But Austin is probably the best city in the country with a legit Div-IA team. Not only would the game be epic, but so would the tailgating and the after parties.

I'm down.
We spent about 4 hours there two nights before the NCG on our way to Pasadena, and it was so awesome we all wanted to go back and really spend some time there.
Ohio State or Michigan
We need to play in these legendary stadiums. You know sort of like the Rose Bowl.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
I'd love to see us play Michigan.
I just hope they’d get good in time.

Playing
at the Horseshoe in front of 105,000 would be a unique experience in one of the most historic venues there is. Also, playing Ohio State would increase exposure in a historically very fertile recruiting area, Ohio & Pennsylvania (and in particular Northeastern Ohio/Western Penn). Not to mention, Ohio State and now recently Alabama continue to pump out NFL talent and this type of matchup would generate a significant amount of interest from relevant NFL parties. (Since 1990 Ohio State leads all colleges in players selected in the draft).

considering the short notice...
…this would be a good time to wrangle a couple of high profile one offs at neutral sites. Cowboys Stadium and the Super Dome are calling.

How about...
USC (to put a long awaited beatdown on Lame Kitty) or Ohio St (just because I hate them)!?!?
i'm very much against playing usc
it would give kiffin way too much publicity. let him hang himself with his own rope. in fact, i’d prefer if we never mentioned his name on this blog ever again.

I can get behind that line of thinking.

Indeed.
Heading up to L.A. and Pasadena was extremely fun this year. I’d like to go back again soon.

Nobody has mentioned...
Notre Dame. With Kelly heading the fighting irish, It would be one way of convincing the nation of Bama’s place among the names that keep come up like Ohio State.

I'd rather play OSU than a second tier NCAA program.
Yes, I meant Oregon State or Oklahoma State. God knows Notre Dame has fallen further than their perch.

i'm of the opinion that biran kelly will have them winning 10 games in very short order
that said, they’ll still get pounded the 2 or 3 games a year when they play decent competition.

Take it on the road too
Their stadium is in a beautiful setting:

Who needs hookers when you have 5 wives?
Beat Auburn? CHECK. 12-0 regular season? CHECK. Beat the #1 Gators for the SECCG? CHECK. Ingram wins the Heisman? CHECK. Tide defeats the Longhorns for the BCS Championship? CHECK!
wouldn't that mean you need
5 times as many hookers?

Absolutely. Revenge on the Wasatch.

I would go with Ohio St or Michigan.........
Though we have Penn St on the schedule already, for us to play in those stadiums and put a beat down on them would be epic. Second choice would be pac 10, anybody would be fine except usc, cause kifficans deserves nothing from Bama.

Tired of ACC and Big 12 teams
We’ve played them all too often this past decade (OU, Texas, Texas Tech, OK State, Colorado, Duke, Clemson, Va Tech, FSU…)
A Pac-10 match-up would be pretty cool. Oregon, Cal, Arizona State, USC, etc…
Fumbles. It was always Fumbles
Go for the Texas Sweep
I say we take a few years and go for the Texas sweep. Heck, schedule ‘neutral’ site games in Cowboy staduim against Texas, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M. I wouldn’t even mind throwing TCU in the mix if they keep up their good work.
That would be 3 – 4 games in Texas where everyone wants to recruit. Those are 3 mid to high level teams that there would be no shame in playing.
I forgot that we do need to beat Utah.
And while we are at it can we schedule ULM again. No kidding, we need to right that wrong.
But of anyplace, I’d still like to go to “The Big House” regardless of how good they may be.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
well if that's the case
we should right the wrongs of la tech, cent. florida, and northern illinois as well.
Got a dip in my stride, cuz you fear the tide.
by MobileBayCityRoller on May 2, 2010 10:29 PM CDT up reply actions
At some point we need to do just that
but Utah & ULM are in the Saban era and it would be good to avenge them while Saban is coach. In fact the only schools Saban has lost to at Bama that he has not avenged are Utah, ULM, & FSU.
So throw FSU in there too, although Bama leads the all time series against FSU 2-1-1.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
i actually delight in the dark irony of the fact that ULM has a better win percentage against us than any of our SEC rivals.
Roll 'Bama Roll: The Champagne of 'Bama Blogs.
I want them to play UNC, Duke, or NC State since I’m moving to the triangle area and will be there during that time and would have the opportunity to go the game. However, I think a good Pac-10 match up would be awesome.
I predict we give Duke a nice beatdown
But only when we play them in a stadium named after a former Alabama coach
Duke will not be automatic.
They are imporving and they will be sky high having Bama come to town. It will be a lot closer at half time than people will predict although we should pull away in the 2nd half.
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
Yessir.
I’ll be at the Duke game, but I still would love for them to come back and play again before I finish school over there.

Nebraska
I think they will be a really really good team, very similar in style to us. That would be a huge game.
I'll put you through hell, but at the end of it all we'll be champions.
Here is the problem with scheduling 'good' teams
It is really tough to know who is going to be good from year to year. All Bama can do is schedule historically and recently above average teams. Every team can and will have down years.
Michigan and Notre Dame are down right now. USC and Ohio St are up. You never know what will happen to a team 3 years from now – only project based on past performance.
Case in point. We will play Duke this year. When we scheduled them, Duke was on the cupcake level. I don’t think they are going to be fighting for a championship, but they have risen above cupcake level and I think will be a respectable team this year (I could be way wrong). But as an above poster said, Duke isn’t looking bad.
That being said, I’d love a home and home with Ohio St and Michigan to follow up Penn St.
If you want a team....
that will consistenly be bad or mediocre, Bama should schedule a game against Virginia. I am a die hard Alabama fan, but I grew up in Virginia and rooted for Virginia when I was young. I met my wife (from Birmingham) in 2000 and everything changed. We moved to Birmingham in 2005 and I have attended games since 2007. Virginia can always suprise you and pull off a decent season (like the 10-win season in 2007, not sure of the exact year), but nothing to really compete with the SEC. USC killed them last year and will do so again this year. Last year they lost to William & Mary.
by RammerJammer23 on May 3, 2010 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions
Scheduling good teams from recent years
is usually going to be good enough. Clemson is a good example of that. Granted, the year we played them they were supposed to win the ACC, but even if they hadn’t been, they almost certainly still would have been a good enough team to propel Alabama to a decent ranking and grab some national attention. Picking name teams, even if they aren’t top tier teams, is all that’s really necessary, and if they’re really good that year and we beat them, that’s just a bonus.

We're supposed to go play them in NOLA...
…at some point. I can’t remember if they were cleared off the schedule for Clemson or VaTech, but it’s supposed to be made up at some point.

Even though....
I posted a comment about Bama playing Virginia, I did vote for the Pac-10 vs. Bama showdown. Let’s play a team that other SEC teams haven’t played recently.
Georgia played ASU last year.
LSU played Washington last year.
UT played UCLA last year and the year before.
I think Cal, Oregon or Oregon State would all be great games. USC could be good as well.
Washington or Stanford...
for history. Okay, Washington for the scenery as well.
I really like the idea of a home-and-hoe with Utah as an alternative.
Forget the west...
let’s relive 1993 and put the Hurricanes in that slot of the schedule.
