Monday Morning Required Reading is appealing to you, our loyal readers, in order to help solve a terrible crime that has befallen one of the Crimson Tide faithful.
Huntsville police say that a bronze bust of Coach Paul W. Bryant was stolen from a home on Pratt Avenue earlier this year. While the bust is valued at $1,200 its true worth is immeasurable as any Alabama football fan could readily attest. Law enforcement is being tight lipped about the details of the case but we can be assured they will not rest until this vile criminal is brought to justice.
Now onto the items of interest floating about the internets over the past few days...
Congratulations Ladies and Good Luck
The Alabama softball team wrapped up their first SEC Tournament and regular season SEC championship and got into the NCAA tourney as the No. 1 seed. Turns out they weren't the only Bama women's team taking care of business. The UA women's golf team took the conference title last month and will play in their fifth NCAA tourney this week.
Catching Up With the 2009 Crimson Tide in the NFL
Leigh Tiffin is stoked about the prospect of competing for a slot with the Browns, Kansas City has Javier Arenas practicing at nickle back, Mike Johnson is on the Falcons second team OL, and it looks like the Eryk Anders didn't get a deal with Cleveland. Also, the Houston Texans OTAs start today so be on the lookout for news on Kareem Jackson.
I'm Good Enough, I'm Smart Enough, and Doggone It, People Like Me!
While we all know about the job Coach Scott Cochran does for the football team's physical conditioning it turns out there's been a guy on the sideline in charge of the player's mental conditioning as well. Trevor Moawad, a mental conditioning specialist at the IMG Academies, has been working with the team since Coach Saban arrived in 2007.
Just Do It, Indeed
If there was any question Alabama football is back, the new apparel/equipment deal with Nike has certainly answered it. The seven-year contract between the company and the university is worth a whopping $30 million (cue rightious indignation). The deal also includes a clause requiring UA administrators wear Nike gear so get ready to see Mal Moore and Robert Witt in sweat pants.
She Left Out The Part About "Making Their A** Quit"
Terry Saban delivered the commencement address at Shelton State Community College and showed she's not just the wife of Alabama's head coach, she's part of The Process. "Get up every morning and do what you want to do. It's all about attitude, doing what you do for the right reason. What motivates you to do what you do will make all the difference."
A Blast From the Past
The late Ed Salem might be the best Crimson Tide football player you never heard of. A standout quarterback, rusher, defensive back and kicker in the late 1940s, he lead the team to a 55-0 victory over the barn in the 1948 revival of the Iron Bowl. He's Alabama Hall of Fame bound, natch.
