The SB Nation site covering Boise State, One Bronco Nation Under God, had the guys over at What If Sports run a SimMatchup simulation of 2009 Boise State versus 2009 Alabama 1,001 times to come up with the answer.

Good God that's lame

So we got that Bama wasn’t that good, ingram didn’t deserve the heisman, and no. 2 rushing offense vs number 28 rushing defense (against a much weaker schedule). BSU fans still don’t realize you gotta do more than play a Patsy schedule. And there is a big difference between the MWC and the SEC.

But the ridiculous attack on the intelligence of Bama fans turned me off big time.

man, by this point you should be used to wanna be rivals...

insulting our intelligence because they can’t beat our team on the field. even if it’s a virtual field inside a computer.

but, seriously, even barners aren’t lame enough to run a dozen simulated games to get the one where their team wins and then posts the stats of that one to crow about it.

It’s a lame argument either way.

Sugar Bowl 2009 results....

I wanted to see us play TCU even though they got beat by Boise ST, we need a big win against the MWC to erase that Ute disaster. TCU beat #16 BYU, Clemson, Virginia and Utah (55-28 ouch).

Remember, Boise needed all 60 minutes to put away La. Tech. 45-35 last year. Only other big win Oregon 19-8 on the blue turf.

Yeah, that’s not the Nevada vs. UNLV-type rushing disparity that the simulation implied. I highly doubt that the Broncos would give up 300-plus yards to the Crimson Tide on a regular basis. For starters, Justin Wilcox would have come up with a 7-2-2 or something crazy to shut down the running game.

hahahahahahahahahahaha.

ha.

They should ask Texas how having an awesome rushing defense worked out. Granted, Texas only gave up 200 yards, but Texas also played real opponents.

I'm wrong all the time.

New DC in his first game, on the road, 4 time zones away

Labor Day heat and humidity on the Atlantic Coast, and a very very frightening trifecta of Hokey running backs make the difference. Va. Tech puts 280-300 on the ground and wins going away.

Really? Why would you hate Boise State so much??

I find all the talk about them — and their claims about opponents avoiding them, while they show no interest in moving to a bigger conference — a little annoying. But I don’t loathe them to the point of wishing they were in the Pacific Ocean.

To SitP’s point, even if it’s only a 2 hour time change for them going to Va Tech (or are they playing in DC?), it’s still over a 2000 mile trip. So it’s not exactly close.

by CarrotTop4 on May 25, 2010 11:23 AM CDT up reply actions

um por que?

There is only one team I hate more than UT and Auburn. It is Boise State.
Why you may ask? Simple answer they are a bunch of Potato F#ckers. No seriously they have sex with potatoes!

Aside from the potato sex there are three reasons I hate Boise State.

A. The blue field. I came home from a party and my friends were watching a late night game played on that blue field. And I got dizzy, headaches and physically sick cause of that blue field and their matching uniforms. I was actually sick it messed with my equilibrium or something. fields are not suppose to be blue. Smurf turf is retarded and ghey. Smurfs are as ghey as they come.

B. Boise state is always a BCS buster and goes undefeated often. Why cause they don’t play anyone. They are a very talented team I will give them that, but if you are a good team and in a $hit conference. You have to schedule at least 2 good teams from Big Ten, Big 12 or SEC, if you ever want to get respect. The first time they ever played a ranked team at home was Oregon.

C. The football player proposing to the cheerleader during or after the game. that is just ghey.

D. The ghey Heisman bus they had for what’s his name. Enough with the campaigning for the Heisman win it on the field.

Sorry this has been a long running joke with my friends since I got sick watching a blue turf game in 2001 and got very sick(it was probably all the pbr and whiskys fault but you can never blame pbr and whisky that is just wrong).

You should make a video like the Bama student did about UT and their "throw up orange". LMAO

A. Yes, the blue field is annoying and I rarely watch their games for that reason. (I wonder, does hi def make it better or worse?)

B.

The first time they ever played a ranked team at home was Oregon.
You can’t really fault them for that. I do believe that they have trouble getting marquee teams to play at their place, and they would probably love to have more such home games. I think they just need to shut their mouths and do what FSU did, go play “anyone, anywhere, anytime”.

C. In the words of Nelson’s friends when he kissed Lisa Simpson: “You like a girl?! That’s so ghey!”

D. Happy to say I don’t even know what you’re talking about.

E. With enough whisky and PBR we can solve all the world’s problems! Or be hungover enough not to care anymore.

Ignoring the fact that WhatIfSports.com is ridiculous on many levels, Boise had a lot of talent last year (and will this year). Bama would’ve won the game, yes, but the Broncos would’ve played a hell of a game.

The end result seems about right, though

88%. I believe, on a neutral field, nine out of ten times we’d beat BSU. Just like, on a neutral field, the 2005 OU team beats the 2005 BSU squad as well. It’s the wonky 10% that gets you.

3 things I noticed

1. Their sim didn’t account for Trent
2. One if their comments listed their beating of Nevada as a reason they could take us.
3. Yes, they beat the best of the PAC-10 & MWC? Best is such a relative term especially in connection to those conferences. We beat the last 3 national champions in one season.

If anything

Replacing Duke, San Jose State, or Ga. State with Boise would improve at least our perceived SoS, and to be honest I don’t think it would be perceived any worse than Penn State.

Furthermore, I don’t think we should avoid scheduling teams for fear of what the reaction would be if we lose. We can’t be afraid to lose. Sure, there are idiots who will lord the Utah loss over our heads as though it was better for Utah to win the Sugar Bowl than it was for us to win the National Championship. But I don’t think keeping them off our schedule is going to decrease the number of idiots who hate Bama.

As far as Boise goes

they need to:

  1. GET A REAL FIELD. It hurts my eyes to watch games on that field and I can’t see their guys. I think to have a field that hides your players should be illegal.
  1. GET A SCHEDULE. Play VT, LSU, Arky, Ole Miss, SC, UT, AU, UF, and TEXAS in the same season and beat them all then we will talk.
  1. GET A CLUE. If you have an 88% chance of winning that is pretty much the ball game considering you aren’ t going to sneak up on us in Pasadena.
  1. GET A LIFE. Last season is over. You did not win. All your talk means nothing

And the reason Bama is not scheduling Boise in the regular season is: (1) We already play a very tough schedule every year. It doesn’ t make sense for us to schedule all of our non conference games against tough schools. We will take one tough non conference game a year and that is plenty. We’d much rather play Penn St. or Miami than Boise. (2) We have nothing to prove to them. (3) If you listed the non conference teams our fans want to see us play that list would look something like: Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas, USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska. Boise would not crack the top 20 teams we want to play.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

most of the ire you are seeing here is directed at the commenters to that post who 1) insult us as a fanbase directly or 2) make ridiculous comments about the bronco’s ability on the field. none of these responses are directed at the blog itself for posting the item.

in fact, running sim games in the off season sounds like a great way to spur discussion and analysis of one’s team. as several commenters in this thread have said, ‘nine times outta ten’ sounds about right for the BSU Bama matchup.
