Saturday Open Thread: Upon Us All a Little Rain Must Fall

It is the summer of my smiles - flee from me Keepers of the Gloom

If the weather will cooperate today (though looking out the window? yeesh...) we might get some hot non-revenue sport action going in a little while. LSU and Ole Miss are set for a 9:30 start in Hoover (according to weather.com that's not looking likely) with Alabama taking on Florida 30 minutes afterwards. Both LSU and 'Bama are one win away from advancing to the championship game tomorrow, so let's hope both can get it done in the first game instead of waiting around all night for the "if necessary" games, 'cause lord knows it's going to be hard enough just getting the scheduled matches going in this weather. Both games are to be televised on Fox Sports South (any extra games will move over to CSS), or you can watch them on ESPN3.com. The SEC Tournament Central page has you covered with the gametracker action. You should also probably be following SEC Sports Update over at twitter for any news on delays and whatnot.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the softball team is set to take on Hawaii in a double header starting at 11 am. The Tide needs two of three against the Rainbow Wahine to advance to the WCWS (Tennessee and Washington have already punched their tickets), so throw any good luck 'Bama hoodoo you can their way and let's take both today. ESPNU has you covered on the TV end, and rolltide.com will inevitably have a liveblog going, though I can't seem to find it at the moment. You should also be following Tommy Deas over at the twitter for updates.

UPDATE: Official word (at least for now) is that both Alabama/Hawaii and LSU/Ole Miss are on for 11am.

And here we go

Kelsi Dunn going straight after the power hitters of Hawaii. 1 strike out, 1 ground out, 1 fly out, and 1 hit. Good to see her going after them as 3 of those girls hit over 400 for the season. 1 with 29 homers, 1 with 25.

And lo now I have to DVR as we are going out for the rest of the day. Bummer. Cant watch till tonight. Yall have fun! Roll Tide!

Here we go in Hoover

Alabama has the guy who started the season as the ace on the hill

It's hard to say what's been most impressive. The seamless jump from AA? The ability to hit for average? The ability to hit for power? The 18 walks in 111 trips to the plate? The flair for the dramatic? When you're trying to isolate the most impressive aspect of Jason Heyward's game, there's a lot to choose from, and it's only been a month and a half.

And that ends the ballgame. Alabama wins solidly over Florida in Baseball 5-2; Alabama comes from a 6-run deficit, but can’t overcome the bad calls and hot bats of Hawaii, dropping the game 9-8 to Hawaii. The third game will be at noon tomorrow.

The softball game was not a good game – Bama outplayed Hawaii through all but one inning, but some questionable (and obvious missed) calls by the home plate umpire gave Hawaii at least two free outs.

by squinky86 on May 29, 2010 3:54 PM CDT reply actions

Yea. Highly annoying in softball

That ump really ef’d up some calls. I thought Coach Murphy was gonna get thrown out! And then the douche coach for Hawaaaaii had the balls to chew the ump for calling his girl when she blatantly stood there to get hit by a pitch. Hell the ump should have done the same for the girl before too. I hope we crush the crap outta them Sunday. Great to hear about the Baseball team. Didn’t get to see any of that one. Thanks for the updates!

What’s the deal with the championship game with LSU tomorrow? Are they undefeated too? Do we have to beat them twice or is it just winner-take-all in the first game? I haven’t been able to keep up the past couple days…
