Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Former Tide PK Leigh Tiffin says he received a free-agent deal with Cleveland Browns on the strength of this weekend's tryout.

via Gentry Estes.

Good news! Tiffin is now the 12th member of the Alabama national championship squad to make a pro roster. We also got word today that Roy Upchurch is going for a tryout with the Ravens this weekend.

that’s 12 of 14. with upchurch and woodall being unsigned and anders something of an unknown given conflicting reports of his status.

of course, that means most of the undrafted guys have just earned the right to show up at training camp. the real battle will be making the final roster. but, still, that’s one hell of an achievement for our guys.

that is GREAT news!

i wondered about him but since he was never mentioned i thought he had elected to not attempt to play at the next level

it is great news

as estes points out, the odds of making the final rosters is low but the fact they are in the system is a huge plus down the line. there’s always a need for good kickers and punters and teams know which guys are in the available talent pool when things get tough.

it’s the same logic with the other guys getting tryouts. they still have a long way to go in order to survive into the actual season but, even if they don’t make it all that has to happen is one team suffers a key injury or two and the phone may ring.

wth is up with

this alvin keels dude? he seemed like such an idiot with andre and now he’s reping roy and who else? wasnt it Cody? do you think the university likes the dude? i mean i would imagine these 3 particular guys would go with an agent that Saban and/or the university approves of. i can see andre going rougue but Terrance and Roy both too? did andre unfairly make the guy look bad?

i think that's a reasonable assumption

it just makes sense that if an agent can spend their time working the phones and trying to line up offers instead of babysitting the client… theres gonna be better results.
