Sunday Open Thread: Softball and Baseball

Softball is still on for a noon start against Hawaii. This is winner take all for a trip to the WCWS, so let's hope Game Three resembles Game One and collectively forget Game Two, otherwise this fantastic season is over. ESPN will televise the game, while rolltide.com has your live blog and gametracker hook ups and Tommy Deas keeps the twitter updates coming.
UPDATE: A two run homer in the bottom of the 7th sends Hawaii to the WCWS and ends the Tide's season. Its a heartbreaker for sure, but if there's any cold comfort to be had it's that we won the SEC regular season and tournament titles and have a lot of players returning next year to build on. Still, hard way to end, especially for the seniors.
Meanwhile, the tarp is coming off the field at Regions Park and the 1pm start time is, at least for now, still on. Amusingly, the Tide and LSU were the last two teams in and yet both ran the table to reach the championship game undefeated. I'm not 100% positive, but I think there's a "college football doesn't need a playoff" lesson in there somewhere. Anyway, ESPN2 has the TV, ESPN3.com has the internet feed, and the SEC Tournament Central page has you covered with the live stats and such. Roll Tide.

Tie game, 3-3. Bottom of the 8th, Bama batting with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd.

Tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the 9th. Play won’t restart for at least another 30 minutes.
The softball heartbreak will lessen
if the baseball team can win the SEC Tournament…. But, man, I feel horrible for our girls. I’ll be pulling for Hawaii in the WCWS.

That is right!!
We lost two tough games today but we did not lack effort or fan support. Both of these teams have a lot to be proud of and the baseball team may actually fair better in the NCAA tourney than some think. You don’t need as many pitchers in the regionals or super regionals. I like our chances.
Plus our softball team is very young (we really only lose Morgan and Dunne is back!!) and our baseball team is playing for a first year head coach. We lose a few more in baseball, but I think even there we have a good core back. (Hope Nelson doesn’t leave!)
Both teams should have high expectations for next year. These are two of the better “non income” sports at Bama
I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.
Well, all I can say is...
At least it isn’t over for the guys. I feel horrible for our girls.
Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs
You can point to a lot things
in the Softball game…but the first batter who walked in the 7th took a change up 3-2 and it was called a ball (too high I guess) but for the life of me the umpire had been very generous with strikes today. I know she had called pitches in the same area strikes all day long and just our luck she decided to call that one pitch tight. If it is called a strike their big stick never gets to bat and we win 4-3.
