What would a 2011 NFL lock out mean to Alabama Football?

No new news here, but something to think about.  If there is a lock out in the NFL in 2011 what would that mean for Alabama football?  Would it mean that those talented juniors on the roster would have no choice but to return for their senior season at the Capstone?  Think about Ingram, J. Jones, Barron, Dareus and Hightower to name a few all coming back for their senior season.  Interesting to say the least.

As well as the competition.

Be a lot of top juniors staying put at a lot of schools. Better football all around, but would it be an advantage for Bama?

Somebody make that happen!

Seriously, that would be selfish on my part. I like it when Bama’s boys get paid…….but somebody please let this happen!

even if there is a lock out

there will still be a draft, regardless. now, if it would be wise to exit for the draft knowing that a season may or probably won’t happen, that’s where the cookie crumbles. sitting for a whole year would be very bad.

That's what I was wondering...

I wasn’t sure if there would be a draft or not. I’d hate to see a lock out because that would mean a great deal of people would be out of work. Not necessarily the players, but all the other people involved with the NFL and the stadiums where they play.
It would interesting to see what all the college players that are eligible to enter the draft early would do. Like RememberTheRoseBowl said in his post, the selfish side of me wants to see this happen so that we could possibly see some of great players possibly stay for another year. At the same time, I’d hate for these guys that have worked their entire life to make it to the NFL have to wait to get paid.
While I am conflicted about the whole situation one thing is for sure, the thought of those guys staying for another year is pretty damn exciting.

i think it

would effect our recruiting in a slightly negative way if they had to stay another year. the recruits would have to wait even longer to get on the field.

that 85 scholarship limit would be a real pain in the ass

if all our juniors were to stay

True, it would spread the talent out even further,

allowing more of the marginal teams to pick up good talent.

Nah

There’s dead weight on every team just waiting to be cut. Even ours.

I'm wrong all the time.

well,

we certainly couldn’t have 2-3 kickers on scholarship if that were to be the case

Except our dead weight would

be starters at other SEC schools.

Wouldn't we rather have our dead weight sitting on our bench,

rather than playing against us? Anything that amounts to fewer schollies being available hurts teams like us that have natural recruiting advantages. If we had the choice, it’d be better for us to go back to the days of unlimited schollies.

A lock out

would help Bama. Our current juniors may be the most talented class when have ever had at Bama. I suspect Ingram, J. Jones, Barron, Dareus and Hightower are all 1st round picks.

I hate the NCAA more than UT & AU combined. At least with UT & AU you got a fighting chance.

yea but

one of the main reasons juniors leave early is that football is a violent game that can injure you severely, another season in the sec isn’t a walk in the park for the best of players. I would like to think that we are good enough people to be happy that guys that give us so much joy on saturdays will get payed on sundays.. I would hope to never see a bama player stay his senior year and pass up sure money only to get injured and put out of football for life. I think ingram and the others will have done enough by then though i think they’ve done enough already. don’t get me wrong, i love watching the wealth of talent we have now and would be happy as hell if a couple fo our juniors returned, but i want them to have the same opportunities as the players that were given a solid option after this most previous year, to leave on their own terms. I hope that a lockout does not happen.
