More on Demetrius Jemison
Gentry Estes has an extended writeup of the Jemison story up today. It's really kind of disturbing, though the most disturbing parts involve statements of an AAU manager, and you probably should give a huge discount to whatever he claims.
Keith Mims, general manager of the Birmingham Raptors AAU team where Jemison played, said Jemison's decision was partly due to a belief that Grant thought he was too undersized to be a power forward in the SEC.
Mims also said Grant did not lobby to retain Jemison as he did with Knox.
"Coach Grant is trying to weed all the old Gottfried guys out, anyway," Mims said. "He wants to get his own guys in there. I understand that. It's just the way he's going about it. It was almost like, 'OK, I'm glad you're leaving.'"
Doesn't make a lot of sense, really (Jemison is bigger than Hines, for one thing) and again, it's an AAU "manager" and history warns us to beware them.

That all sounds bogus...
First and foremost, I’d about trust the Iraqi Minister of Information before I’d trust an AAU coach. It’s hard to get much lower credibility than those guys generally have.
The whole thing just sounds like he wanted to get out and is now looking to pin the blame on someone else. And besides, big whoop Grant is trying to get rid of the Gottfried guys. That was part of the thinking behind firing Gottfried in the first place.

What you said
I just thought I’d post the comments. I should add that Jemison himself is (at least publicly) being gracious.

Maybe so, but I’m always wary when I see deals like this. I would doubt that this coach is just running off at the mouth without at least some tacit push by Jemison.
In situations like this, I think back to the months after the Shula firing. Mike Shula never said anything bad about the university (or anything at all for that matter)… meanwhile his Dad is running his mouth for months trashing ‘Bama and Saban, when of course Mike could have probably put an end to it himself simply by telling his Dad to be quite and let him handle his own affairs. When I see deals like that, I have the feeling that it involves people who want to do some mud-slinging and burn old bridges, but don’t want to have their names explicitly attached to it so as to avoid having the rant come off as mere sour grapes. And especially, in Shula’s case, when you use someone like a Hall of Fame coach, whatever criticism you make is undoubtedly given more weight.

It seems a little harsh...
