"It's always a difficult decision to leave any place, and it is a decision I am never going to make again," Saban said when asked about coaches moving from one job to another. "I am where I am. If they get a football team at Lake Burton, I might go there. Otherwise, I am where I am."

But in all seriousness, though, it's nice to see statements like that being made, and it is even more re-assuring to have seen so little of Saban's name being mentioned in relation to the NFL and other job openings (both in legitimate channels and baseless message board rumor mill chatter). For a guy who has accomplished what he has the past two years, it certainly points to him spending the rest of his coaching days in Tuscaloosa. If nothing else, we don't hear anything even remotely close to what was coming out of East Lansing circa 1998 or Baton Rouge circa 2003.

i've said it beofre and i'll say it again
he seriously thinks (and i dont blame him nor think he is off base) he can make a challenge to the claim of greatesy coach in modern football history and wanted to fiund the right place to make that charge. that is why he knew he had to leave LSU, and also why he knows he does not have any better place to mount this challenge from, than the University of Alabama.
where better to challenge/equal/potentially surpass Bear Bryant’s legacy than at Alabama?
we’ll have him on our sidelines for several more years god willing, and i expect he’ll win at least 2 or 3 more BCS titles while he’s here.

i believe that if we lose saban
it’ll be like carroll at usc… back to the nfl to try and succeed at the only level of football that thwarted him.

i don't know
i would more see him go somewhere that at the time is totally irrelevant (like boise state a few years back) and then bring them to prominence and a NC run

I tend to agree with your sentiments. The only thing I keep thinking though is that because success in the NFL is so top down organizationally dependent, one would think that there would only be a select few teams he would even consider leaving Alabama for. And that alone increases the odds of him staying.

Maybe but ummm...
what about the Process? If you’ve been paying attention (and believe what he says), Saban just enjoys doing the work. I don’t think he has any grand goal to “make a challenge to the claim of greatest coach in modern football history”.
Also, I don’t think there was any need for him to leave LSU if that was his goal. He left LSU to try his hand at the NFL, not so he could land at another college 3 years later. He certainly could’ve won multiple championships at LSU.
^This sounds true.

Auburn and Tennessee fans are a lot like Slinkys...neither are worth much but you do get a sense of satisfaction from pushing them down a flight of stairs
I just wish people would stop asking him about it
I bet he got asked at every Crimson Caravan stop. At the one in Huntsville, I guess the guy wanted to be a little different, so he asked “what can we as a fanbase do better to make sure you don’t leave” or something like that. It’d drive me crazy. I mean, who wants to be around someone so insecure that they constantly have to ask if you still want to be with them?
I hope you were honest with her...
