The offenses today want to throw the ball. The players like it, and it is fun. At the University of Alabama, we are not about fun. We are about toughness, being physical, and winning ball games. The players have fun by winning games and championships. We do things that way, and our players buy into that idea and play hard for us.

Just got the 2010 Coach of the Year Clinics Football Manual the other day and am completely blown away by Kirby Smart's speech. He's a Saban clone at this point, and I have no doubt in my mind he is going to be a head coach very soon, and a successful one at that. There is nothing particularly ground breaking in it (its focus is on DB drills), but the emphasis on time management and the ability to squeeze every last ounce of practice out of the allotted time is amazing. If you want a peek into the way practice is run and the philosophy behind developing defensive backs that Smart (and Saban, obvs) have used to such great success, do yourself a favor and order it. h/t to Smart Football and his always welcome "What I've been reading" posts.
