Interesting discussion on TSK on LSU's "main" rival. There seems to be consensus both teams have to hate the other for a rivalry to count. (My hunch is good ol' hate leads to TV ratings. Which raises the question of why anyone would want to watch Texas Tech play Oregon State in the proposed Super Pac16?)

Right now, it's Alabama for sure. If a corndog says anything different, they are lying.

Historically, maybe you could argue something different, but with Saban coming here and the way we beat them the past 2 years, their hate for Alabama must be at Godzilla levels.

What you're seeing is team spirit. It's like the Holy Spirit, but more powerful.

As wey points out, the thing about it is that that's a really one-way hatred.

They’re at best 3rd on our list of most hated rivals. But the problem is that there just isn’t anyone that has them as #1.

I think historically Ole Miss was probably their biggest rival. But yeah for right now at least, it’s us.

i think alot depends on what time frame you were in school

my eldest was there from 2003-2008…a period during which we NEVER beat LSU. needless to say, they are near the top of her hate list.

Here's the (SEC) Rivals List...

1. Auburn
2. Tennessee (dropped from a tie with the Barn because Kiffin is gone)
3. LSU

and then, does it really matter after that? Maybe Florida at #4

And the non-SEC rivals?

There’s the obvious list of other traditional powerhouses, but none that I can think of that you’d really call a rival. Maybe ND, based on the hate. Or PSU, based on the respect.

I wonder what non-SEC (and non-Ga Tech) BCS team have we played the most times? Anyone have any ideas?

Hell, I'd put Florida ahead of LSU...

…if we’re talking rivalry. Those coonasses aren’t a rival, they’re an annoyance.

i know it's not popular

but i really love loosiana people. i was a bartender for many years here in the beach and we loved it when those folks came to town. they’re were always a crazy bunch that worked hard and played harder and actually tipped in proportion to how much they ran your ass while you waited on them. i’ve had WAY WAY WAY too much fun in NOLA hanging out with locals that want nothing more than to feed you and send you home happy. i’ve been to several native LA family reunions where the topic at breakfast is what they were going to cook for dinner. good times with good people.

(even though they did kinda scare the shit out of me while i was walking alone to get my car during the 4th qtr of the 2008 game).

Only 2 rivals

Tennessee and Auburn, in whichever order you like.

Anyone else is just a transient hatred that is the product of relatively short term circumstances. You can call it a minor rivalry, current rivalry, or a spat – it’s just semantics. No other hate comes anywhere close to the levels reserved for UT and AU.

I usually have this conversation about once every 2 weeks with someone

some LSU people get downright offended when you tell them they are at best, 3rd on our rivals list. I guess they are determined that the seething hatred should be mutual.

Ole Miss

I don’t have a lot of experience with either fan base, but it seems that in terms of intensity and reciprocity, Ole Miss is the best answer, though far from a perfect one. It all depends on who you ask, which I guess is the reason we’re having this discussion.
