An icon of the position of safety has passed.   R.I.P Jack.

Having played the position myself, I was always in awe of his ability to break on the ball and receiver.

My memories of Jack Tatum are of the prototype Safety....cold,calculating, and ruthless. Never one to shy away from contact, you can bet your sweet bippy he'd stick his head in there on the run, too. Not many had the reputation Tatum had, on or off the field. There were many hard-hitters that followed him (Lott, Atwater, etc.) but he will be the original "sniper"....The Assassin.
