Well...
…from the looks of this thread, I’m one of the few here who think so, but this has been the most exciting Cup I’ve seen since I was a kid and saw the Hand of God. I don’t know if the worst-ever officiating has taken away from it — or somehow enhanced it — but I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed an entire World Cup as I have this year. I have people calling me (since I’m one of the few former soccer players they know) asking me questions about the game itself and talking to me about how exciting Uraguay vs. Netherlands was, or Ghana vs. Uruguay. How often does that happen in the Deep South?
At any rate, I’m very pleased with the two sides remaining. Today’s match is actually the first time I’ve watched Spain this Cup, and what scares me (for the Dutch) is how they seem to combine the fluidity and athleticism of a South American team with the ball control of, say, the Netherlands. Still, the fact that some country will win its first ever World Cup Sunday has me positively elated.
Thanks to Nico2.0 for keeping these posts coming, and thanks to all of you who have contributed positively to the discussion. Adios.

Couldn't agree more
Had a guy I know stop me and talk about the WC for about 15 minutes. Said he’s been hooked. I know we have ESPN to thank for all of the exposure, but still. It’s great to see that kind of excitement from those who aren’t that into it on a regualr basis.
I am currently in Nothern Germany for work...
and have taken in public viewings of two games:
1) Germany’s annihilation of Argentina: Much drinking and minor rioting ensued…
2) Germany shiting the bed against Spain: Much drinking and minor rioting ensued…
So it’s good to see that 70,000+ (estimated public viewing attendance) can take the loss so well.
I personally think that Holland will wipe the floor with Spain. Torres is essentially only a factor for 10 minutes of any given game this World Cup, and Robben is on top of his game.
I would have loved for Germany to be in the final simply to see Robben play against alot of his teammates for Bayern.

Cursed...
While this has been one of the most exciting WCs I can remember. My luck at picking the favorite has been USELESS.
I went with Brazil – TOAST
Fell in love with Germany’s counter – tepid against the Spaniards
Thought Argentina would crumble – got 1 right
Other than that – It’s a crap shoot. I’m sure Spain is favored to win but with some of the striking I have seen by the dutch and Robben’s persistent Swan dives, they’ve got more than a chance to pull it off.
One thing to note: I think I remember the announcers saying during the Neth-Uru match that they were only 200 ft above sea level. I think finals are going to be back in high altitude. So best of luck with the long, accurate strikes.
I’m telling you though that first goal against Uruguay was unreal. That’s what I have been looking for the whole tourney!!!!
Van Bronckhorst!
Yeah, killer goal, maybe the shot of the entire tournament.
Spain did it to Germany, they have a very good chance to play their keepaway game and beat the Dutch. But I’m pulling for the Netherlands to break through with a legendary performance by _ (TBA).
I got to play goal for the first time in our weekly pickup game the other night. Age ranges are 16-mid 40s (me). I’m on the field all of 10 seconds before a 20 year old smoked a shot past me that was similar, 35+ yards, just without the tough angle. All you can do is marvel.
germany was offsides
on their 1st half goal…. go uraguay!
