Guys who could go pro early

Hi everybody. Just found this site after floundering for several years on al.com and non-insider rivals/scout. I'm loving the content here, thought I'd try to help contribute with a list of guys who could go pro after this season. The list doesn't include seniors or all players who would be eligible--just guys who might make the jump early with a great season. Some of them would need injuries to players ahead of them to even see the field. And lots of them aren't going to be high draft picks but might leave early due to financial reasons, concern about competition for future playing time at bama, etc.

OL-Vlachos, Barrett Jones, Tyler Love (making this list it surprised me that Warmack is listed as a SO. Any reason we didn't RS him last year?)

RB-Ingy

WR-Julio, Maze, Hanks

TE-Michael Williams

DL-Dareus, Kerry Murphy, Josh Chapman, Damion Square, Undra Billingsley

LB-Hightower, Upshaw, Chris Jordan, Jerrell Harris

DB-Barron, BJ Scott, Phelon Jones, DeQuan Menzie, Robert Lester (listing Lester seems strange--a few months ago I thought he'd be fourth string behind R. Green, K. Allen, and R. Woodson)

The list seems a little long to me. But USC's former backup qb is a franchise guy in the NFL (it'll be cool when we have just one starting qb in the league again). The day when players who don't contribute all that much on the field for us go on to success in the NFL is coming sooner than we think.

Um first off..

welcome!

Love will NOT be leaving early. He hasn’t even played a down yet…and probably wont at all this year.

I don’t think Maze or Hanks will leave early as well. Unless they have just AMAZING years…and i still don’t think that would be enough.

No on Williams, Square, BJ Scott, Phelon Jones, DeQuan Menzie, Robert Lester …

Agree with bammer

your list is a big stretch. You might as well say everyone could go pro because you know what? They sure could if they played good!!

But some of your picks are really crazy- Love, Menzie and Phelon Jones are not going to play very much. And the you picked 5 DB’s from what most people would argue is the weak spot of this team. I’ll give you Barron, but the rest are a work in progress and one season is not enough to get them ready.

And Michael Williams is ok to block but he is not an NFL TE, not even close

Really? I don't think so.

OK, you're right.

He said that “all of these guys are eligible to leave”, not that it was all of the eligible guys.

I'm only trying

To see where he might be coming from

just curious

who is going to play if not Menzie and/or Phelon Jones? I thought those two were competing for the nickel spot.

I have no idea

how are going to line up in the secondary but I think that when we are in the nickel we will play our 5 best defenders. I “think” that will mean- Scott, Kirkpatrick, Barron, Lester (these 4 for sure) and Milliner is #5 if he gets back from injury. #6 may be Fulton, #7 may be Lowery. I’m not sure if Jones might not be #8, and Menzie #9 (mainly because of his injury.)

I expect

Julio, Ingram, Hightower, Dareus, and Barron to all collect their big first round checks this year

What happens in the event of an NFL lockout?

From everything I hear, the draft will happen no matter what, but there might not be an NFL season next year… So what happens to people who leave early if that’s the case? Will this be an incentive one way or another?

Good question.

I would guess some will stay if there is an NFL lock-out.

Just browsing the names...

I was curious which players were eligible, that’s all. The 5 bamabrave mentioned are locks, and we all knew that I think. But there might be 1-3 round value for Vlachos, Murphy, Upshaw, and Scott, guys I hadn’t even really considered leaving early. I know Saban tells them not to go early unless you’re 1st round, but if you’re top 3 and can get guaranteed money it might be a good idea. The new CBA could change lots. It’s scheduled to end at the end of this season, so I guess they’ll have to negotiate a new one before any drafted players are signed. That’s important because one of the top priorities for owners will be reducing young players’ pay. So I think the incentive to get that rookie deal asap was in place last year but is gone now.

As for the other guys, I agree some of them will be lucky to get invited to an NFL camp even after their senior seasons. Michael Williams is not in that group. He dominated the point of attack several times last season. He’s big for his position. And those balls thrown to Peek last season could largely go to him this year. It’s unlikely to happen this soon, but he probably does have an NFL future. Same goes for Barrett Jones. Might not happen now, but he has an NFL future. And knowing that these guys will probably play in the NFL, it’s something to consider knowing that they’re eligible after this season.
