At this point, what do you do as a defensive coach? Do you sit back and let Richardson run your guys over? Or do you try to apply pressure and give up big plays? I don't know the answer, and neither did Tom Bradley. When your players are getting beat up and not tackling, there's only so much you can do as a coach in the course of the game.

From the good folks over at Black Shoe Diaries. I don't post this to rub their noses in a loss or anything like that, but we've struggled offensively for so many years that it feels great to see opposing fans writing things like this about your team.

And this comment down the page from PSULion29:

"STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING: F- Penn State was boys playing against men out there…. from where i was sitting, Alabama was running through us, around us, and over us and there wasn’t we were doing to stop it… They were obviously better trained physically than we were. I think a lot of our guys, a lot of the time were in the right place, but just weren’t physically strong enough to handle the Alabama offense.

Numerous times, i heard, “there he goes again” or “it takes your whole team to tackle one guy?” from Alabama fans… They were all great people, but it was obvious where we were compared to them. It wasn’t even close. A friend of mine said going into the game that we couldn’t start out in a 14-0 hole and thats exactly what we did. When Bama scored that first TD by just running through 5 arm tackles and diving into the endzone, it was over. Penn State had a few high points, but it was over.

When it comes down to it, like i said, we were in the right position, but we were boys playing men strength wise. If this isn’t a wake up call to JT and the strength staff, than i don’t know what is. Penn State players were just bouncing off Trent Richardson and Julio jones (sp?). They’re obviously on another level than we are and i hope we do something in the weight room to wake up and smell the roses….."

What became obvious

and PSU perhaps did not understand is the Trent Richardson is just a freak. I mean the man is just that strong that rarley can one person bring him down. And, you add to that blazing speed and I don’t see how you defense the guy.

As much as I hate Auburn I hate Tenn. that much more.

Even now, they ain't all sold on him

Call it sour grapes,
but I’m not sold on Richardson. Penn St has stopped good RBs in the past. If Richardson turns out to be Ingram or better, I’ll concede. Until then, I attribute his success to the front seven’s failure to be physical.

Talk about not paying attention! I recommend a conversation with a young man named Will Muschamp, who brought the top-ranked rush defense into the National Championship game last year. Yes, Richardson is 2nd-string ONLY because Ingram is there and a year ahead of him. You would be hard-pressed indeed to find five programs in the country where a back on the level of Trent Richardson wouldn’t be the starter. I include PSU in that, no offense to Evan Royster.

Then again, some of those folks describe their reasons for losing that game in racial terms. Ignorance knows no geographical boundaries.

Hold it

Don’t say “they”. That was one guy. Everyone else from Penn State realizes Richardson was unstoppable.

I wish he played for my team. I’ll tell ya that.

PSU fans are awesome

I hope I can make the game next year!

Agreed.

I didn’t say, “… they ain’t sold…”, I said, “…they ain’t all sold…” Hell, there’s still Bama fans who don’t think Richardson is all that. They’d probably be harder to find than that one PSU guy, though.

I’m just kinda… surprised, is all. OK, I don’t know who Evan Royster’s backup is. But if finding out that Richardson is on par with Ingram surprises someone, he warn’t payin’ attention. That wasn’t poor defense, that was superlative RB play.

And thanks for your kind words; TR really is a special talent, and we are very fortunate to have him – not to mention Mark Ingram, and at the same time!

Nor do I wish to paint the PSU fans with a racist brush – not only were the racist comments a small fraction of the posts and posters, but they were stomped on rapidly and firmly by the other posters. As they should be.

I have no problem with PSU fans in general or with BSD in specific. Quite the opposite.

and as much naysaying about the heat and humidity as a factor

i assure you, it was brutal. i’ve been marathon training in arizona with 110 degree temps but, at best, 30% humidity. my runs last week in tuscaloosa were like i was stuck in four feet of mud the whole way. and gameday was positively oppressive. having a good two months of practice in those conditions was certainly an edge for our guys as well.

Agreed Kleph......

it was freaking brutally humid at the game…….I was drenched in sweat and it wasn’t even that hot…….but it was like breathing through a bowl of soup……

cant remember who said it but

someone recently said marcus lattimore is the most physically gifted back since Adrian Peterson. Sure, he’s great and all, but its hard to imagine being further along than Trent.

by JDinGeorgia on Sep 13, 2010 4:04 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

That was here:

Marcus Lattimore is a beast. You can count the number of freshmen running backs on one hand who can knock down defenders like South Carolina’s freshman did against Georgia. Adrian Peterson at Oklahoma. Herschel Walker at Georgia. Who else? Lattimore is not in that caliber yet because he doesn’t have the body of work. But his 182-yard game against Georgia was special.

Yeah, I had the same thought. “Best freshman RB since LAST YEAR maybe.”

If I'm wearing a turban, it means Auburn is playing Iraq.

To Lattimore's credit

he isn’t running behind our O-line, this year’s or last, so what he’s doing right now is extremely impressive so far. It will be interesting to see how he does against an established and more talented front seven. I do think freshman Trent was a stronger running back than Lattimore is right now.

by krnxprs on Sep 13, 2010 5:03 PM CDT up reply actions

lolz......

I was VERY impressed with Lattimore……..however……..TR is a MF’n freak of nature……..he could break Lattimore in half with his bare hands………

by p3bhambama on Sep 14, 2010 2:14 AM CDT up reply actions

Apparently that wasn't the only one.

Also here:

Ready for some more premature hyperbole? This one I’m fairly confident about: South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore is the most physically gifted freshman running back I’ve seen since Adrian Peterson six years ago.

What is everyone's impression of

Michigan’s running back Denard Robinson? The media is all hyped about him and I am sure if he keeps going like he did in his first 2 games, we will be hearing more and more about him. He had over 500 total yards by himself Saturday but I am just unsure if he is that good or if ND’s defense is just not that great.

by BamaGirlinDallas on Sep 13, 2010 4:58 PM CDT reply actions

He seems legit BUT

I need to see him against better defenses than Uconn and ND.

pat white 2.0

that kid is poised for a heisman run. he’s got all the factors going in his favor: SEC player won it year before? check. the MVP of his team? check. Plays for a team the media loves to fellate? check. Puts up gaudy stats? check. Has an interesting story (DOESN’T TIE HIS SHOES?!?!?! /sarcasm) the media will love to repeat incessantly? check… at this point he just needs to keep racking up the stats and beat penn state and wisconson. he can probably play well and lose to iowa and OSU and still be a front runner. Remember, even tebow lost a bunch in 07 and still won it…

I watched

his game against Notre Dame. He reminded me of VInce Young but time will tell if he turns out to be that good.

He got shut down in the second half for the most part.

I think Wisconsin, Iowa, OSU, and probably PSU will be able to stop him.

Also, Michigan State was the first team to hit Michigan’s quarterbacks last year and several other teams followed suit afterwards. Both Forcier and Robinson were banged up.

Michigan’s defense is still lackluster, and this guy is throwing 25 times and running 25 times. I don’t think Michigan can win more than 7 games unless the rest of the team can give this guy some more help. Without their offensive line (Quietly improved from last year) and Robinson, Michigan would be 5-7 again.

Lest we forget.

Trent is amazing, no doubt, but even a freak like Trent can’t get through holes an cracks that don’t exist. Our O-line is doing well, making opportunities for Trent. And this week, they get to play for Ingram.
