Unlike most Bama fans I expect a very close game on Sat. I know we are the defending champs who blew these guys out last year on big plays. But I think Arkansas 2010 is better than Arkansas of 2009 and I also think that while we have looked good on offense we are still a young team on defense.
If it is a close game then the special teams play becomes very important. To be honest I think Arkansas could be a bit ahead of us in special teams.
Punting: Both teams have good punters, but Arky’s Breeding is better. Plus our punter has yet to be in pressure packed situation. In the return game Arky’s Adams is a real threat. Our punt returns have improved with Maze we still look shaky to me returning punts.
Kick-offs: Both teams have good kick return games but their kick off guy Tejada is just better than Foster who seems to have to line drive the ball to get it deep and that sets up a possible return. Our kick return defense has been bad for a while and looks to be slightly improved this year with Foster giving us another defender. Still I see our kick-off defense as shaky. And, heaven help us if they try an onside kick. We seemed to have a plan against PSU but the thought of a surprise onside kick scares me.
Placements: This is actually an unknown for both teams as both have young and inexperienced placement men. As far as Bama goes, Foster trying to make a 45 yd. kick to win a game scares the daylights out of me. Shelly seems to be pretty sound on short kicks.
Well, hopefully we blow them out because I think they have edge here as our special teams are not what they were last year with Javy, Tiffin, and P.J. If you remember the UT game last year we won that game with big plays on special teams, especially Cody & Tiffin. I’m not sure we have the special team players this year that can actually win a game for us but hopefully our offense is good enough to overcome the just average play we could see in the kicking game.
By the way if you think our special teams are better than the Hogs let me know why you feel that way.
