Thoughts on South Carolina?
I don't feel like reading through the hundreds of posts on the game thread, so I was wondering what everyone's initial thoughts on South Carolina were. For me, they looked pretty good. I've been hearing for years "if their offense ever catches up" they may be an SEC contender. It appeared last night that their offense has improved a great deal. I know, however, that it was against a Southern Miss team that may not be very good at all. I guess we will see as the year progresses. I paid particular attention to this game due to the fact we will be facing them coming off of an open date, on the road. So, your thoughts....

Garcia did look good but you are right.....
Playing So Miss might not be a good indicator. He is so inconsistant. I only saw half of the game because we went to see “The Gamechanger” last night! Nice was to kick off the season and I needed the distraction because the Darus thing was making me crazy. I forgot to record the USC game so I would like to know what everyone thinks also.
Bama's Pluck and Grit have Writ Her Name in Crimson Flame
going off last night
south carolina 2010 is arkansas 2009. better than average offense, godawful defense.

true
They did give up 400+ yards. Not much rushing, but I’m not sure how committed Southern Miss was to the run, especially after trailing big for much of the game. I thought Lattimore looked good at rb, but again, what caliber of a D was he facing? I think the thing that worried me last night was seeing Garcia hit a couple nice long throws, coupled with our inexperience at db.

I think we'll have a better idea after they play Georgia
Offense and defense both started off pretty bad last night but apparently the offense really got things together (I had switched to Utah/Pitt)

Leading tackler was the free safety…not good

So Miss looked undersized.
Especially on D.
In the next 6 weeks the cooks play GA, barn and Bama. And Furman twice.
Living here in SC . . .
I have been amazed by how many SC fans today have talked about winning the SEC championship after their “big win” last night. I guess I should not be too suprised . . . they have been claiming “that this year is there year” every since I can remember.
Not sure how valuable it is as an indicator
There was zero pass rush from USM and that’s when Garcia screwed up last year. Like others have mentioned, the UGA game will be huge for evaluating the strength of that offense.

SC looked okay
for playing USM. They have no pass rush, the DBs were supposed to be a position of strength for them, and, the no-huddle gave them fits. Garcia played admirably, but Georgia’s defense will pound him a little harder than USMs undersized team. Lattimore will be a star in the SEC, provided the OBC puts the ball in his hands more.

Yeah, Lattimore looked good

My 2 cents...
SC’s D was all but conceding the middle of the field. I’m sure some of that was schematic, but it didn’t seem like they made many adjustments throughout the course of the game to take away that part of USM’s passing game. But, USM wasn’t able to really take advantage of it.
As for SC’s O, who really knows? Like others have said, it’ll be a week before we know much.
I was somewhat
impressed with SC. Garcia looked better than I remember. I think most of USM offense came late and SC was playing some subs.
But…too early to tell because SC was bigger than USM—-that won’t be the case for them in the SEC.
As much as I hate Auburn I hate Tenn. that much more.
BUT TEH GATURS LOOKID TEH AWESOMEZ!!!111!!!!!!!!!!!11111111

I fear the Cocks!
This game is going to be a close one for Bama. I’m not going to talk X’s and O’s. USC comes off a biweek and we will be beaten up by a brutal schedule on the road. Our only respite, a home game against Florida (ouch). However, Florida may not be as good as we thought. They damn sure didn’t cover the spread. Anyway, If USC beats UGA, then they will be riding high and we will be in their house against one of the greatest coaches. I still say we can still win but if the injury bug catches us or (God forbid we lose to Florida) this could be a seriously dangerous game.
