Week One Night Thread
All is well in Tuscaloosa as the Tide romps and emerges relatively healthy. There are still quite a few games going on right now, including LSU v. North Carolina, TCU v. Oregon State, Vandy v. Northwestern, and some others. Chime in with all your thoughts here.

I treid to convince everybody...

Roll Tide
Bama won big, looked like an explosive offense with tons of upside. Defense was a bit slow on a few plays though. HOW BOUT OUR PUNTER? nice present.
Hold my beer and watch this.
SJS turned out the way
we all thought. Clearly they are not in our league. I think the D may have been a little flat looking towards PSU. I sure wish we had Dareus next week. Our pash rush was not over whelming by any means although we did not blitz too much.
Even though Lacy came on, I’m not sure how much we will let him carry it against a much harder hitting PSU.
If the injury to Upshaw is nothing, then we escaped pretty clean.
Did not see Chavis Williams doing much tonight. I’m mixed on Lester. And CJ Mosley is going to be a great LB.

Wow, what a night
I spent one hour and forty-five minutes on the phone with DirecTv because suddenly, after advertising the game being on channels 787 and 789, Gameplan or suddenly else decided that it would be Pay-Per-View. I was on hold for a while, then a guy in India screwed up the connection. I gave him an earful so he hung up on me.
Then I called back and the woman who answered tried to fix it. She couldn’t so I was on hold for another twenty minutes or so and then my call was lost again. I called back and they agreed to give me the game for free, however, they screwed something up so it wouldn’t play (probably had shown too much and it wouldn’t let them give it to me for free) so I was on hold. This time a woman in the Philipines answered. She turned on a Porno after I told her it was Pay-Per-View.
Somehow, I really insulted her because I tried to explain my frustration with DirecTv. Thursday I received an e-mail listing all the times and channels. Bama’s game was the feature on 787 and 789, yet it was blacked out in California. THis is stupid since I’m probably 600 miles south of San Jose.
Anyway, I guess I pissed off the Philipino woman because in trying to explain that I wanted a football game on pay-per-view and not a porno I said, “Look, this is a big deal. You know how people get excited about Manny Pacquiao fighting in the Philipines and they want to watch it? Well that’s what Alabama football is to me.” She was having a hard time understanding what American football was—and why I couldn’t see the game since I had already subscribed to Gameplan and another DirecTv agent had already credited me with the Pay-Per-View order—and she basically transferred me to some Southern woman.
After another half hour of bitching, they gave me part of my Gameplan subscription for free and five dollars off my Starz channel order per month. I watched the stream of the Bama game on my laptop.
I kept asking for a supervisor or bigshot so I could motherfuck him with every bit of my anger, but they wouldn’t give me anyone. Finally they gave me a P.O. Box address for their president. I’ll probably write a letter motherFing him.

By the way
Why did DirecTv remove all the ranked teams from Gameplan and put them as Pay-Per-View? What the hell is that about?
Nothing was said about that all week. Every Gameplan reminder I received from DirecTv—as well as the information on their website—indicated that the game was going to be aired on channels 787 and 789.

Thanks
I feel bad for getting so angry, but I was on the phone for an hour and forty-five minutes and I never got to watch the game on my TV. I was pretty ticked considering this game was one of the reasons I purchased Gameplan.

I don't know if it was the same problem or not,
but I missed the first 7 or 8 minutes of the first quarter when the bar I was at couldn’t get the game on. They had already paid for it on DirecTV but yeah, when they went to the station it said “this program is not available” or something like that. We were just about to walk out the door when they finally got it on.

Upshaw dinged up his ankle, and so did Fluker later (but apparently to a lesser extent). We were otherwise healthy, to the best of my knowledge.

The making fun of Florida’s offensive ineptness before their game started.

Man I can't wait for Ole Miss
I bet Red Cup went fucking nuclear tonight….
One difference I noticed
we are not as strong in the middle of our D as we were before.
That’s not to say we’re not good, but last year no one got a push. Tonight, there looked like more of a push than I’d seen in 2008 and 2009 and this is probably one of the weaker lines we’ll face.
Again, that’s not to say we won’t have a good defense, but I’ve been saying for a long, long time that Cody will not be replaced easily.
He will rock you...he will roll you...come on, come on, come on...all day, all night, you'll feel...my heat...feel, feel, feel, feel, feel...feel my heat!
You are correct.
Cody was able to tie up 2 or 3 linemen and thus our LB’s had free reign.

Yep...
TCU beat Oregon State, easily the best game of the week.
Jacksonville State beat Ole Miss in double overtime.
Michigan and Notre Dame disappointed all of us by playing decently.
Cam Newton had some pretty entertaining highlight reel runs. None of which involved stealing laptops, nor tossing them out of windows.
Bama was pretty impressive… McElroy and McCarron were both outstanding. Julio had the best catch of his career… a one-handed grab (left handed at that) that made Sportscenter’s #5 play on the Top Ten. (Or was it #6? It was somewhere up there) Richardson, Lacy, and Goode are all beasts. Lacy did have one fumble; SJSU got a huge hit on him, helmet right on the ball, just outside the endzone. D’s a bit softer in the middle w/o Mount Cody, and the secondary got toasted on a couple of plays. Special teams play was simply outstanding.

I don't think you get to go to a bowl unless you win at least 6 games

You know I am glued to the TV Thursday in all seriousness.
Miss ST. and Auburn should be a great game.
I understand hate. I'm a Alabama fan.
MSU may have
enough offense to out duel Auburn because you really don’t need that much offense to score on Auburn.
As much as I hate Auburn I hate Tenn. that much more.
Gonna have ourselves a cajun meltdown this week, folks...

Just got back from the game. So excited about this season. Everyone looked legit.
Wish you guys could have heard the crowd eruption when Julio made that catch.
Holy crap, I just got to watch the end of the Ole Miss game. That was awesome!!!
such a great game.

There is still football on Monday!
If I'm wearing a turban, it means Auburn is playing Iraq.
how'd murphy look?
and do we know anything about upshaw’s injury?

a buddy a the game told me Mosley looked incredible.
I checked box score, no catches for the tight ends? Anyone know who lined up in the dime package?

Dial had a catch. I think the stats are pretty messed up. Ppl were saying McElroy was 13/15, but he definitely missed 3 passes (though a couple were drops).

from the stats, qbs had nice ypc
were we stretching the field with our routes? no dink and dunk?

Lot's of downfield looks tonight.
There were a few check-downs, but overall we flung it around well.

If Mosley ever learns how to catch...
the interception record is toast. He dropped two easy ones and got a hand on a third.
i know he's fast, but what about his size?
can he hit the gaps as a Mike and stuff the run? I heard he was all over the damn field

He was everywhere.
Couldn’t tell much about the run stopping ability – they had mostly abandoned it by the time Mosley was in there.
Mosley
had a 6th sense, he knew where the ball was going. He reminded me of Ryans.
I’m not sure who was the dime, Milliner was the nickel. Fulton played a lot late and it may have been him . BJ Scott did not get in until late.
As much as I hate Auburn I hate Tenn. that much more.
fulton before scott?
is he that bad at zone coverage, or is he in the doghouse?

lester scares me a bit.
He took some bad angles but did have an INT. Menzie looked good to me.
Alabama football....The only addiction God wholeheartedly approves of..
On an unrelated note
my Pickem picks for this week are trashed.
I had some pretty good picks. UNC and Miami (OH).

damn dude
I kept going back and forth on that LSU game after the line went up. And of course ended up going with LSU in the end.

Most interesting thing from Saban postgame was praise for frosh QB Phillip Sims, saying Sims ready to play but doesn’t want to waste a year

Perhaps the most shocking thing about the ole miss loss is that they had ZERO penalties in the entire game.
How the fuck do you have 0 penalties and lose to a FCS team?

Anybody still wishin' . . .
. . . they had bet on LSU?
The Hat cannot change. He will blow at least 2 SEC games and lose one or two others straight up.
No kidding...
… I was just speechless at the end of that game. I’ll be honest, in all of my years of following college football, I have never seen anything like what is going on in Baton Rouge right now.

I was watching . . .
. . . it with my 9 year-old son. We were both just stunned as the game unraveled. When UNC fumbled, he said, “That’s it, let’s turn it off.” I said, “No, it’s LSU. It’s not over.” Of course, I didn’t really believe that and went over to my computer and started messin’ around. A few minutes later he started yellin, “They fumbled, they fumbled.” I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!!
This game was the most epic fail ever by a team that actually won the game. I just don’t see how Miles will survive this season. I hope he can because I like our chances while he’s there, but he’s not going to change. He’s a great recruiter but a horrendous head coach.
