Dealing with it

I think everyone will agree they are glad to see the 2010 football season finally come to a close. We went into the season hoping to see the improbable happen and the Crimson Tide try to make it three straight undefeated regular seasons and contend for yet another BCS National Championship. Unfortunately, the end result was a top 10 finish and even more unexpectedly a championship season for the Auburn Tigers. This is difficult for any Tide fan to deal with, especially those with ties to Auburn or those who come in constant contact with the other side.

However, we must acknowledge that it did in fact happen. Their title might stand for long but they did win it on the field, which I know if they have to go down, they at the least want to go out on top. I don't agree with their practices in recruiting or attempts at team motivation (Running to the end zone before the forth quarter, Trooper Taylor doing what Trooper Taylor does) but that is the Auburn way. It's different than us, most would see it as being tacky, but you just have to respect that is what's they like, just like every family has their weird traditions, Auburn sees themselves in a similar light.

I do not believe they will be a national beloved champion like our Tide was this past season. Anyone who wants to argue with the nation loving Alabama on top can see the commercial ESPN made for us just recently.

I say that because the day after they won their first title in over half a century, the two biggest stories from the sport was that Les Miles would stay at LSU and Michigan hired Brady Hoke. Normally I would think the Michigan story would be a big deal since they have the most wins out of any program, but much like Alabama when we hired Nick Saban, Michigan has been highly irrelevant on the national scale for years now.

Dealing with the game itself, you have to give Auburn props. They by no means looked like the best team in the nation Monday night, but they were the best team in the stadium and that's all it took. Personally, I would say TCU, Ohio State, and Alabama looked more impressive in post season play, but not like that matters. Oregon is a good but not great program and they will fall on their face when the stage is too big. I understand all the students here and fans around town that were pulling for Oregon and for good reason since they are not Auburn, even some of the Roll Ducks Roll stuff was cute but who are we kidding, if LSU or Alabama couldn't beat Auburn, a team that was as physically impressive as Georgia State didn't have a chance.

With that being said, let your Auburn friends have their day in the sun, deep down they know it might be the only chance they get to see a season like they had for a very long time. And do not fret, with renewed focus and less distractions, Alabama will be in New Orleans this time next year and the nation will once again be Crimson.
