Somebody shot at Rolando McClain
Silly man.... bullets only make him angry.
Former Alabama linebacker Rolando McClain was uninjured Thursday evening when shots were fired at his SUV, according to a news release just sent out by Decatur police.
One bullet was retrieved from the rear hatch of his Chevy Tahoe after police responded to McClain’s call to emergency dispatchers.
McClain, a Decatur High product, said he was driving down Second Street SW in Decatur when a group of people standing in the 2nd Street intersection started shooting. The bullet did not penetrate the passenger compartment, the release said.
A crime scene technician and detectives responded to the scene and interviewed McClain and his passengers. Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call the Decatur Police Department at (256) 341-4660.

Dang, the man lives in Oakland
but he had to come back to Decatur to get shot at?!
If Bama never wins another national championship, the Barn will match our total in the year 2593. Please God, don't let me have a Futurama incident.

Safer there...
Sadly, the homicide rates in small southern towns are historically higher than larger cities outside the south.

Interesting article,
but Table 4 specifically disagrees with your statement.
Total homicide rate for smaller (less than 200k) Southern cities: 5.93
Total homicide rate for larger (greater than 200k) cities in other regions: 9.73
What the article says is that if you eliminate every other factor (specifically poverty being one of the biggest drivers), Southerners tend to be more pre-disposed to violence, and it hypothesizes cultural reasons for that. BUT you can’t just eliminate those other factors; they’re still there. I maintain that Decatur, Alabama is in fact safer than Oakland, California. I’ll see if I can find stats to back that up.
How much longer till kickoff?
...and here you go:
Oakland violent crime rate: 5,613
Decatur violent crime rate: 221
(Stats are from 2003)
How much longer till kickoff?
Well
I’d say they are about even. I’ve lived in both areas. I grew up in and around Decatur, and now I live in the south bay.
The only reason I go to Oakland ever is to Raiders and A’s games. And I have no reason to be where Rolando was while in Decatur after dark ever. The only times I did go in that area was when I was young and didn’t really know any better.
I can say the same things about Nashville, Atlanta, don’t even get me started on places that touch the Mississippi river like Memphis and St. Louis.
It’s not like that kind of thing happens every time in any area, but there is no doubt there are increased risks.
All I can say about Oakland is that it’s bigger, and due to economics it’s like the ghetto of the bay area.
Bottom line, better know where you are in any city.

^^ This.
I think that reputation is pretty well known. If we’d been talking about San Fran, I never would’ve made my original statement, and if I had, other people would not have found it funny.

Also, one correction of my post:
What the article says is that if you eliminate every other factor (specifically poverty being one of the biggest drivers), white Southerners tend to be more pre-disposed to violence, and it hypothesizes cultural reasons for that.
But white Southerners are probably not a significant part of the population in Oakland.

My point was...
to challenge some stereotypes. And based on your last comment, I think the point was made. To your earlier post, you have to look at it per capita. I live in Washington DC, and grew up in a small southern town. I witnessed shootings and had friends murdered in my home town (Rome, Ga.), but have yet to experience either in my 22 years in DC. So yeah, bottom line, “you better know where you are in any city”
To your earlier post, you have to look at it per capita.
As far as I know, all of those numbers above are per capita.

You've made him angry. You're not gonna like Ro when he's angry.

Wait
Is that the new Ole Miss quarterback?
Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone.
That or whatever the hell QB the Bears use next year.

As someone who spent 18 years in Decatur,
followed by 8ish in Tuscaloosa (with a little Helena and Hoover thrown in for good measure), I’d figure it much more likely to happen here in Tuscaloosa than in Decatur.

Not when Rolando was so trouble ridden in Decatur.
Played his whole senior season of HS Football with an ankle bracelet on. He cleaned up his act a whole lot when he hit T town.

Well there were a few parts of town that I definitely never saw.
Before my sister and I were ever old enough to drive, there were a couple roads we were told never to go past, but 2nd Street SW is only a block away from the Boys & Girls club where I played baseball and soccer when I was little.
I’m sure you can find thugs anywhere though.

2nd Street SW is only 1 block from Moulton St
And Moulton St towards downtown is not a nice place at all.
I'm glad he wasn't McSlain

don’t do that, you’ll only make him mad.
