Today, January 8th, 2011, is Cam Newton Day in Alabama. That's right, two days BEFORE the BCS CG, the state is celebrating one team's QB. Now, some might say this is just one politician's (Bob Riley) actions. But check Facebook for your Auburn 'friend's' statuses. They are eating it up. They LOVE it. They cannot get enough. They're wishing each other "Happy Cam Newton Day".
I am now CONVINCED Auburn will lose. This kind of pride self-worship does not go unpunished. I remember wishing Ingram didn't win the Heisman to avoid the curse and subsequent big head. Turns out, he was immensely mature and it was well-deserved. But still, I don't know any Bama fans who left the SEC CG nervous about the ensuing month before the Rose Bowl with Texas. Look at the Auburn fans you know. Any humility? Any nervousness? I've seen NONE! I saw one guy wearing a National Champions shirt he'd made.
I cannot think of a single act that better epitomizes Auburn Football than a statewide celebration of a single player for winning a single award, two days before the championship game... except maybe a $200,000 bribe.
