For those who are in Tuscaloosa or who arrive early for the LSU game next week, we highly urge you to take a bit of time to attend a symposium on campus that will examine the integration of athletics at the University of Alabama, including the football program. The first event is a keynote address by historian Andrew Doyle on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. Doyle has done some fantastic work on the history of Alabama football. I especially recommend his article on the symbolic importance of Paul W. Bryant to the South (available here as a pdf). Then, on Friday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, there will be a panel discussion featuring former coaches and athletes. The participants have not been announced yet. Both events are free and open to the public.
