Healthy Conflict Avoidance
Caught this semi-amusing piece over at ESPN, where Forde is parodying armchair psychology about all the emotional conflicts in college football, including teams that blow big losses, teams that can't win no matter whaT conference they are in, teams like, cough, cough, us, who cannot cover The Barners' tight end, etc. He gets then to a category called "Conflict Avoidance":
Conflict Avoidance
Everyone who tries to tackle Alabama running back Trent Richardson (24) winds up experiencing this by the fourth quarter. Actually, The Dash finds this a perfectly healthy response.

I was a huge fan of Alstot
but I’m thinking TR is heads and shoulders above him as a back. Alstot was a north/south runner that had had little to no agility and was lacking in speed. TR is a far more complete back that posses those run over you like a locomotive skills that Alstot had, but can put a move on defenders and then flat out run them.
Yes I do agree
Trent is faster and as you said a more complete back, but he still reminds me of him.

Sweetness.
He reminds me of a step slower, wider Walter Payton. There’s just a difference in breaking tackles and running through tackles; I think these guys just flat out ran through them, not even taking the time to “break” the tackle. That’s a piss poor way of explaining it, or at least the way I see it.
"We run this state, we run this stadium. Now let's go out there and run their ass in the ground"
+1
I lived in Chicago during Walter’s heyday. It was such a pleasure to watch him run through and over people, not around them.
You can't win. You can't break even. You can't get out of the game.

Whenever I see TR break loose,
it reminds me of a combination of Walter Payton and Christian Okoye… one of two things is going to happen… a cut, resulting in a juke of monumental proportions – OR – a perfect example of exerted physical brutality, as some unfortunate defender is blasted and dragged like a slow jaywalker at the wrong intersection.
"...because you've got your mind right, and that's the way we like it." Nick Saban
Interesting fact:
Emmanuel Okoye, a cousin of Christian Okoye, was a walk on linebacker at Alabama. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/college/stats/1998/news.aadroster.html
Thirteen.
One of my favorite runs in the FL game was...
when he ran over a gator, who hanging onto his leg for dear life, was dragged for four more yards – while TR was busting through more tackles.
Talent can only get you so far. Give me a player who has less talent, but the heart of a champion and the will to succeed.
The story I recall from Trent's recruitment, just after we signed him:
He showed great promise already in HS, and Emmitt Smith’s former coach came out of retirement and gave Trent advice. After reviewing films of Trent, the coach said something like “I know something you don’t — NO ONE wants to tackle you…” And he worked with him on things similar to what Emmitt did, bursting into (would-be) tacklers, initiating contact, etc.
TR reminds me of...
