Did Roy Kramer call in a favor to get the Viles bowl eligible?

OK, the title is just a little drama (a little trolling to reel in the readers; that's how this here "journalism" stuff works, right?).  And I admit that I didn't actually see this game, so I'm looking for a little explanation:

From Jon Solomon's "College Football Sunday Rewind: The post-BCS "utter chaos" edition"

3. SEC officials erred by being correct. What a crazy overtime finish as Tennessee defeated Vanderbilt with an interception return for a touchdown. The head linesman incorrectly ruled that the Tennessee player's knee was down when he intercepted the pass. OK, no big deal, right? Go to instant replay and get it corrected, which referee Marc Curles and his crew did. The call was overturned and Tennessee was correctly awarded a touchdown. But technically, it shouldn't have happened because the linesman clearly blew his whistle and gave the dead ball signal. "The play was reviewed as if there was no whistle on the field, and as a result, overturned the incorrect ruling," SEC coordinator of officials Steve Shaw said in a statement. "By rule, if there was a whistle blown, the play is not reviewable." In other words, the SEC got the call right by circumventing the rules. Did the linesman not tell Curles he blew the whistle? And if he did, is it acceptable to simply ignore replay rules to get the correct call? Everyone watching on TV heard a whistle blown. This isn't the first controversy for Curles, a Birmingham resident whose crew was suspended in 2009 for high-profile missed calls in Georgia-LSU and Florida-Arkansas games. Not all of those same officials in 2009 are on Curles' crew now. Ultimately, it's best that the right call got made. But it's how the call got made that became a mess for the SEC, which is fortunate this error happened in overtime of Tennessee-Vanderbilt and not Alabama-LSU when more people would have cared.

So the linesman blew a whistle when the pass was intercepted?  And then the UT guy ran the pick back for the TD?  That should be ruled down at the time of the whistle because the whistle would've caused the Vandy players to assume (correctly) that the play was over, thus they wouldn't have tried to stop the run back.  So the refs went to the replay and overturned it and we're supposed to think that is the "correct" call?  That's BS.  Yes, the whistle was incorrect but 2 wrongs don't make a right!

Note that this is similar to what happened to us against UF, when Brantley fumbled the ball but there was a whistle before we could recover it.  But there the refs gave the ball back to UF.  They didn't go to the replay and give us the ball based on something that happened after the (incorrect) whistle.

Ima attach a poll here, because I've never done one before.  ;)
