Why It Is Always Oklahoma Over Okie St. For Me

Well I know every Bama fan in the country will be pulling for Oklahoma on Saturday night. But I’ve been following this game, Oklahoma v. Okie St., for a long time and I’ve always pulled for Oklahoma except on the rare occasion when Alabama needed an Okie St win. That was the case in 73, 74 and of course 2008. Oklahoma killed Okie St. all of those years, so Okie St. was as ususal of no value. This year however is the first year that I’ve not only pulled for Oklahoma, but an Oklahoma win would really help Alabama. Nevertheless, I thought I’d give you my favorite reasons to pull for Oklahoma over Okie St.

1. Tradition: I’m not afraid of pulling for a team with a great tradition because I respect real tradition as opposed to made up tradition like AU. Oklahoma does not have as great a tradition as Bama, but I would put their tradition in the top five. I think the greatest real traditions in college football are Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and Ohio St. I hate Notre Dame and Ohio St, for various reasons. I can stand USC. But, I like Oklahoma. As far as Okie St. they have no tradition.

2. Uniforms and colors: Oklahoma has classic uniforms and their colors are Crimson and Cream. I think, behind us, they have the second best uniforms in college football. Okie St. uniforms are terrible. Their colors are orange and black. Besides looking like Halloween, these are the absolute 2 worst colors for a school to have. The bottom line is that I do not like even 1 team with Orange uniforms. Not one.

3. Fans: Well this is subjective, but I’ve known and been around fans from both schools and Oklahoma fans are classy, Okie St. fans are redneck hooligans.

4. Campus/Town: Norman is a nice little city of about 100k and is really a suburb of Ok. City. Stillwater is a small town in the middle of no where. I’d rather live in Norman 10 to 1 over the redneck city of Stillwater. I’m sorry but I don’t like Garth Brooks and Stillwater is all about Garth Brooks claiming he got his start there and such.

When you step back and look at this rivalry what do you see? It is Alabama and Auburn in the west. Everything about Oklahoma looks like Bama and everything about Okie St (formally Oklahoma A&M) looks like Auburn. Rooting for Oklahoma has always been a no brainer.

Go Sooners. 45-42.

Ima be a big Sooner fan this weekend...

…but I normally do not pull for OU.

1. Tradition: OSU is no threat to what some of us claim about UA; namely, that we have the greatest tradition in college football. OU is a top-ten-of-all-time program; therefore, I root against them regularly to help widen the gap between them and us.

2. Uniforms and colors: Alexis…why are you trying to copy me?

3. Fans: I don’t know any OSU fans, but I’ve met more than one a$$hole who believes that OU has a winning tradition as great as, or better than, our own. I met one guy who laughed at the championships we won before the AP poll came into existence. I wonder if he now dismisses the AP titles since the BCS system owns college football?

4. Campus/Town: Never been. I got nothin’.

Again, though, I do hope they curb-stomp OSU this weekend. Roll Tide.

Having taken I40 through Oklahoma more times than I'd like to admit,

I move to trade that fucking state to… Panama in exchange for the Canal! Shit hasn’t been the same since we lost the Canal, man!

PS: Stoops, if you f___ this Bedlam thing up, you’ll be a throw-in on that deal as Noriega’s whore.

…the problem with this comment is to take the I40 thru OK, you have to take that route into Arkansas.

There is no flipping way you will ever catch me on I40 in Arkansas again. It seems like that stretch is always under construction.

It's not what you've done but what you are doing that matters.

You have a point.

This past spring was the first time that it didn’t have intermitent slowdowns due to political corruption- I mean road construction.

What’s that? We talking about the Corridor X being completed into B’ham?

God bless our Dark Lord.

This brought a smile to my face knowing the backstories on the Walker Co. portion of Corridor X.

I think it's cool...

…that Alabama is naming the Corridor after Malcolm X. Usually, these roads all get named after MLK, Jr.

Fitty, #4 seems a bit shameless.

You’ll probably regret that one if tomorrow never comes. Oh, and I’d put Texas and Michigan both ahead of Oklahoma for tradition-this ain’t their first rodeo. Now grab yourself a longneck bottle and relax for once.

I'll be pulling for OU

But it wasn’t always that way for me. Barry Switzer guaranteed that I’d never be an Okie fan. He is a classless whore of the first order…IMO.

Tradition: I agree they are definitely top 10 in CFB. But I’ll go with J Tad here and say my top 5 are Bama, ND, Michigan, Texas, and USC

Uniforms and colors: well…duh. Ha. I do like their uniforms and color for obvious reasons, but I’d put them further down than #2.

Fans: The few that I’ve met were fine folks, so I can’t say anything negative other than they supported Switzer…

Campus/Town: Never been to Oklahoma, so no opinion here. I will say that you have a serious hate-on for rednecks. I’ll say that some of the best folks I have ever known happened to be rednecks, so I don’t have an issue with that group of folks as a general rule. I have been referred to as a redneck myself, so whatever… :)

My score prediction:
Oklahoma – 37
OSU – 36

well in the world of the haves and have nots

we’re in the camp with the haves along with OU

not saying that OSU doesn’t have tradition in its own right, but in the world of the snobby elite we’re right there with OU guffawing and puffing on cigars at the Old Money table so I do feel more comfortable siding with OU in a situation that doesn’t have implications for Alabama

but this one does so it’s of course a no brainer

as a side note: college football is pretty much the ONLY thing Alabamians get to be snobby about but none the less haha

I believe Bedlam will be close or close enough not to have an effect on the rematch.

I know the final score was not close

and the stats were certaintly not close but with just a few minutes left in the 3rd qt. Auburn had a 4th and 6 inches on our side of the field. If they convert that, and they should have, and go on to score we enter the 4th leading by only 6 pts. It was a close game until the Millner TD which was a result of the flipped field from that stop.

So yeah I think the IB was close for far too long.

By the way I agree OSU v. OU will be close, and I think OU will win by 3.

If Auburn was in New Mexico and we never played them I would still hate them and their dumb coach and their cheating players.

I have a generic small preference for OU over OSU

I like both teams OK, and have often pulled for OU in the past in their big games against non-SEC teams.

But my generic selection between these two teams means absolutely NOTHING when the outcome of the game has some effect on Bama’s standing. That trumps everything 1000 times over.

Same for every other team. Got my favorites, got my hates, but that all falls away when the outcome impacts the Tide.

Boom, uh, boom, uh, boomer, and uh, pretty soon or maybe even sooner.

by glen55 on Dec 1, 2011 9:10 PM CST reply actions

I have only interest in one part of this....

the final score. As we know OSU’s defense sucks and Ok’s offense is better than most they’ve seen so I would guess a high scoring game with Ok hopefully coming out on top.
