Future Alabama Kicker Wins Georgia State Championship

With the game and season on the line, Calhoun kicker Adam Griffith calmly stepped up and kicked a 32-yard field goal in overtime to win the Georgia AA State Championship in the Georgia Dome on Friday afternoon.

He also kicked field goals of 29, 46 and 36 yards to beat the four-time defending champions Buford 27-24.

"I didn’t think about anything other than just kick the ball," said Griffith, "I wasn’t nervous. I was confident."

On the losing end was Alabama commits linebacker Dillon Lee and tight end Kurt Freitag of Buford.

The game almost ended in regulation with Calhoun leading 24-17 and set to punt near midfield with 47 seconds left. However, a low snap and pressure from the defense caused the punter (not Griffith) to fumble. The ball was snatched up by Lee and he took it back for a 40-yard touchdown to send the game into OT.

If he graduated early...

Would he be eligible for the BCSNC?

No, from my understanding of the rules

a kid is not technically eligible to play out of high school until National Signing Day (to make it official), which is not until the first Wednesday in February. They can enroll early, and if they go to even one class, they’re locked into that school for one year unless they go through the transfer process (Kiffin tried to get some of his early enrollees to not go to class if they wanted to follow him to USC). But they’re not eligible to participate in any football activities until they sign their official letter of intent.

And in regards to JUCO players who can sign in December, they can’t play for two different teams in the same season in college football anyway.

So effectively, no.

Is he, in fact, enrolling early?

Lee, too, I would hope so. Then he can’t change his mind.

Actually,

Scout Rivals

Stars Position Rank Stars Position Rank

Cade Foster 4 3 3 10

Adam Griffith 3 1 3 3

But I agree we should not be overly optimistic—which I probably am.

Lil' help with the column formatting please?

This is showing that Cade was a 4 star in Scout and Griffith is a 3 star?

Yes.

Sorry. When I typed inside the message box, it looked perfect. No amount of editing after previewing could change the format.

Yeah, SBN formatting doesn't handle tables (or white space) very well.

There’s probably some html trickery that you can use, but then again it might screw that up as well.

Also playing in the 5A Ga State Championship

was Grayson DE Robert Nkemdiche. I’ve posted about him before, but this kid is a beast. He’s a junior this season (recently rated #1 overall junior recruit). I couldn’t find a video of the play, but on one particular play, he blew up the OT, grabbed onto the ball carrier in the backfield while being held by that OT, then was attempted to be blocked off making the tackle by another player, and still made the TFL. By the way, he had 85 yards on 10 carries to go with it. He’s a DE by trade, but late in the season was used both ways some, he has 4.6 speed and is 6’5’’ 250 lbs. Did I mention he’s a JUNIOR?

In an interview after the game, he said his coach, former UA Bear Bryant Walk on of the year winner, Mickey Conn, told him before the game to drink plenty of water because he was going to go both ways, I like him…
